2008 WRX STI knocking
When turning at slow speeds (turning onto driveway, Parking etc) on very slightly uneven ground or sometimes smooth ground I get a dull knocking sound from the nearside front suspension or lower arm.
Does anyone know what this might be, the car has only done 25k miles.
Thanks

I think it might be coming through your steering column,I also have a slight knock/rattle when turning at low speeds on bumpy surface's but I also had it on my 07 sti hawk, its something to do with subarea removing rubber bush inserts on the steering rack to sharpen up the steer response, thus increasing noise etc on low speed turn, this is what I was told when I contacted IM with regards to the noise

If its the same as the hawkeyes, its the crappy standard suspension that is knocking. Its somthing to do with the grease inside drying and compacting.
Theres people who are on there 3rd set and theyve only done 50k.
Better off getting a good set of coilovers unless the warranty covers it

It's probably as above, the stock shocks. KYB make them (STi) so they are not cheap nasty ones really the only issue is the greas that the manufacturers used - it looses it's elasticity over time and ceases to work as intended thus you hear the knocks. Also if left you may hear creaking when cornering or going over bumps.
I had my rears stripped and re-packed with fresh decent grease yesterday funnily enough. Here are some pics, the grease the manufacturers use is yellow in colour and upon removal was clearly no longer viable.
Dirty!
Taking out rear seats to get to top mounts to release
Since this this work as been done, not only has the knocking & creaking stopped but the car handles an awful lot better.
The work cost me £140 for both sides at Surrey Subaru Specialists, very much worth it. Will not need doing again.
