Default 02 bug eye squeak

Hi i've tried searching various threads on here to find an answer on this, but still come to no conclusion. The problem i have is a dry squeaking noise from my rear suspension when going over speed bumps. I've recentley had 2 new rear shock absorbers fitted, but i still get a squeaking noise, i've looked and noticed my rear anti roll bar is corroded could it possibly be the rear "d" bushes or the rear drop links? if so which product would you recommend i.e. OE parts or aftermarket.

cheers

Try a can of white lithium grease to lubricate your bushes.

Yep, exactly what I did and it solved the problems on my bug after fitting the Whiteline ALK and Powerflex bushes...

Halfords sell the white lithium grease in a spray can for £4.99 (Can is light blue and black and in store and on their website!)

Very very stupid and elementary question but am I right in thinking I can access the bushes whilst the car is flat on the tarmac? They are located in the wheel assembly by the trackrods etc?

Just use a piece of card between the bushes and the brakes to prevent over spray.

I have tried lubricating the exhaust bushes but to no avail, i lubricated the boot lid lock but it didn't make any difference, not sure what you mean by adjusting the lock, any suggestions on what to check on my boot lid??, as it does sound like the noise is from the boot area but can't seem to locate where the noise is coming from? any advise would be appreciated.

thanks

yes im 80% sure its the boot locking catch, open the boot lid and in the middle of the rear panel you should see the lock catch, this is held by 2 x 10mm just undo them and posistion the catch a little towards the floor then tighten up and see if the boot shuts ok.

other way is leave the boot lid shut and press down on the lid too see how much play you have ( you should hear it sqeak too ) then you know roughly how much you need to much the latch down....

thanks modification for your advice i tried this last night in a couple of different locking positions but still having the noise today so will keep trying, other than that what's the likeliness of it being anything like the rear strut top mountings?

thanks again

Hi yeah i pressed down on the boot lid but couldn't hear anything, i've just put the locking catch into the lowest position it can go at the minute to see it it fairs any better, so will know more later. Not sure if it will cure it due to me not hearing anything when pressing the boot lid though?

cheers

I am looking for anymore possible suggestions as i still have a squeaking noise from the rear of my car which is annoying more than anything, it seems to be louder when ever there's anything in the boot or passengers in the back, as i get quiet a loud squeaking which sounds like something on the suspension?? so far i have had replaced for one reason or another, the rear shock absorbers, rear "d" bushes and the rear drop link bushes but still i seem to get this noise, any suggestions as to what to check next would be appreciated.

cheers

With the space saver i even put foam packing around the clamp to try and secure it better, thinking the noise may be from there, but sadly still the same, anybody know what the strut top mountings sound like when there gone, as my noise is more of a squeak than a knocking.

cheers
