Default engine oil in shocks....

got a spare set or two of classic shocks sat about and thought I'd try to refill a set with engine oil. Has anyone tried this??? I've done it before on classic beetle shocks with good results, drilling a hole at the bottom of the body, draining, then welding on a nut over the drilled hole, refilling and sealing with a screw/bolt. Any thoughts????

i think you can buy oil used in motorbike shocks, right? That might be better than engine oil

Its hydraulic oil used in dampers. you need the correct grade as different viscosity oils will carry different weights.
