wrx arb's

I usually only comment on this sort of post if I am 100% sure, but I will make an exception...because I am not perfectly certain
20mm front, 18mm rear.
I am however, very certain that if you want to remove the built-in understeer, you must fit a rear arb of the same diameter as the front. Yes, you can fit a bigger one at the, but be wary of the ensuing lift-off oversteer

I think most recommend just uprating the rear to 22mm if your only after a fast road car. if your doing track days that's a different matter and the way i see it you need to experiment to see what suits your driving style

You have to consider that there will be a point where the car starts to lose overall grip if you fit too thick an arb.
The arb takes "weight" off the outside wheel and moves it to the inside. Preventing body roll, but also making for a tendency to lose grip since the inner wheel has grip.
Thicker than stock is fine, since they are set for a bit of comfort and safe handling. Reducing you body roll will initially give more grip as the tyres outer sidewall will see less deformation, and the tyre will work correctly.
THAT is the sweet spot for arb thickness.
Maker it thicker will reduce overall grip.
In My Very Humble Opinion...22mm is plenty!

I also have a 2004 WRX.
Stuck with the standard 20mm front arb, just fitted superflex bushes and alloy droplinks.
Fitted 22mm rear arb and alloy droplinks.
I also have tein springs fitted.
The differance is amazing!

I fitted a rear 22mm adjustable bar...... then got greedy and did the front (22mm adj) + ALK, it made the car handle better but not as big a change as just doing the rear made, so not as good value.
It leaves you something to play with, before road legal slicks get added.

P.S. Mine never slides but christ can it grip on R888's

I've an 04 too and i'm looking to start upgrading the suspension. Is it acceptable to just upgrade the back to the 22mm bar or are alloy droplinks necessary too and does it matter if I just left the front stock? How hard a job is it to change the ARB and links?

Rear is 75 mins including the cup of coffee....
Spray every bolt the day before (wd40), and watch the old bolts snap (LOL), then grease up new bushes and replace ARB & mounts, then fit drop-links in middle position to start with .
I advise an adjustable rear bar to "tune" the handling.
IT IS THE BEST VALUE MOD ON MY CAR !

P.S. Wire droplinks work, but alloy ones (Whiteline) are fit and forget.
