Default changing my suspension help please

i am changing the shocks on my 95 wrx wagon as they have had it and have a few questions as i have not done this before (replacing them for standard).

1 - should i change the springs aswell as they are so old?

2 - i also need new drop links and anti roll bar bushes so do i need to change the anti roll bars too?

3 - are there any special tools i need for all of this, have socket set and basic tools, i know i will need to buy a spring compressor if changing the springs.

i am trying to do this as cheaply as possible as i also need to buy other parts while replacing the old worn out parts.

thanks
for any advice
neill.

1 - only if there fecked or you want lowered
2 - no
3 - spring compressors for doing the shocks & car jack comes in handy working on the anti roll bar

Since your working on the droplinks, youve got the perfect chance to remove the antiroll bar and paint it with hammerite. Also a nut splitter might come in handy when removing the nuts from the droplinks.
Mine were solid, I had to hacksaw the ******* off.

Default legend and question

Hi Slipstream, I just downloaded your workshop manual for the 06 wrx sti, even though i have only a wrx standard. Legend - thanks for the link!

Secondly, does anyone know if spring compressors are needed to change the rear shocks only on an 06 wrx wagon?

Is this a big job also? It will be the first time I have done work on a car since probably 2001 - and that was a 1979 opel!

Thanks

Christian

Generally replacing rear shockers you can jack the car up and place on axle stands on the sill, then use two jacks one under each hub and take the tension of the spring then remove bottom and top bolts and they won't move an inch. this is only if springs are separate to shockers, if they are a strut like the fronts you will need spring compressors for sure.

But you can use the same principle of jacking the car and let the jacks hold the hub whilst shockers are off. Not thy bad of a job I wouldn't have thought if you have done them on other cars before?

DO NOT attempt the job without spring compressors.

When you come to remove the front shocks, bear in mind the top bolts are adjustable camber bolts that will need putting back in (at the very least roughly) the same position. Centre punch a mark in the top of them before undoing and don't mix up the sides!!
