Default Newbie, Snapped strut problems!

First off....Hello! Just joined the site as i picked up my first Scooby last night 1998 UK Impreza Turbo 2000 AWD and having problems already
Not even had the car 24 hours and the osf strut collapsed on the way home from work tonite, a quick look and it seens the lower spring seat has sheared off the shock and slid down, as the springs just flapping about! Luckily this happened at under 20mph so dont think theres any other damage.

Has anyone else heard of or had this happen? Is it common on Imprezas?

Worring thing is if it had happened 10 mins earlier i probably wouldn't be hear typing this!!

To say iam abit peed off is an understatement swapped my minty 300zx for the preza, and thought i would use the Subaru as an everyday car while my GTR is off the road getting work and possibly hang onto it and keep the GTR just for weekends/track use. but i am abit dissalusioned with the scoob already. I know its probably just bad luck but not really a good start.

How much would i be looking at for a set of new standard front shocks?

Any help would be superb (and please dont flame me for being a Datsun owner! )

Cheers

Try one of the breakers for a cheap replacement, or to be safe stick a new pair on the front to make sure it handles o.k.

Shocking, but did you have a good look round it before buying ?

Sticking a new pair on it, better safe than sorry. Had a good look round it but i suppose it isn't something that's that noticeable.
Got a set of standard ones (KYB) for just over £175 and I'll get my work to stick them on (work for ford) Anyone know how many hours labour I'll be looking at?
Cheers.

One if they are any good, I did four on mine in two hours, but that was swapping to coil-overs not swapping springs, etc.
