Hi all
I have just (literally) finished fitting the new Eibachs to my car, I know it's a bit late, but can someone who has them fitted please go and look under your car, and tell me whether the springs with the coils very close together go on the front or the back, they also have a sleeve around them to avoid horible noises, I'm a little concerned that I may have made a major ****-up. I've driven the car and it feels ok, but I don't wanna be driving around with the wrong springs on the wrong end of the car.
Any help would appreciated.
Thanks
Ron

As far as I can remember, the sleeves stayed on when mine were fitted. Might be worth speaking to Powerstation as they fit loads of these.

Just checked the car - yes the sleeves stay on and these units should be fitted at the rear of the car (tightly coiled bit at the bottom).

Thanks Chris, just what I thought, I've screwed up. Doh!!!!!!!!!
Strange thing is, with the springs on the wrong end of the car, the ride height still looks right, weird eh!

The joys of DIY eh Ron? Don't forget that you'll need to get the geometry and alignment done aswell!!

Question

Now you've got me thinking. I'll be fitting mine at the end of this week and when I took them out of the box I assumed the ones with the sleeve were for the front (haven't looked under the car yet) as in the old days when I had Escorts the fronts had a sleeve to stop them making a noise when you applied lock....

Ron,
If scooby sits level I personaly would of thought they were on correct, can not remember which way my springs went on (not Eibachs) but Im sure they were obviusely different lenghts front to rear, mind you it was over 2 years ago that I done the job and I have got a poor memory. It would make sence to have the plastic covering on the fronts as the front suspension legs swivel which causes the springs to move sometimes and the rears dont. Would look at my Scoob and old springs but they are in Southampton and i'm in Miltonkeynes.

Colin and all,
I hope that I did it wrong, as I've now changed one side over, the weather's gone pear shaped so the wheels are still off, when I lower the car back onto it's wheels, I'll have abetter idea whats going on, the springs defo fit the struts etc better now, I guess it makes sense to have more coils on the rear, that makes for a softer spring doesn't it, which is what you need on the rear.

Good luck mate, it's part of the fun of doing repairs/mods yourself. Why do a job once when you can do it right the second time.
