The 'harshness' will be mainly down to the shocks, not the springs.
The stiffer springs do offer more resistance to roll, but it's the shocks that give that crashy ride feeling. Over damped for road use.
Ohlins are the bling of shocks though, very well made. They sound ideal for someone who ventures on track occasionally. Check that they are not adjustable, maybe they are set too hard and could be set to a softer setting.
Coilovers again need a bit of fettling before getting a ride that you like. Damping adjustments will make the shock more or less crashy. You can get all sorts of spring rates for these, but then often the shock damping/rebound needs to be set accordingly to work in conjunction with it.
There are some very good coilovers to be had, 'better' handling often has a compromise on road comfort though.
