Red face need advice

i recently bought some bk333 17s for my impreza sport but after fitting them found the tyres catch so i thought best thing to do would be to grind the arch but the tyres are to wide and would still catch if i grinded the arches so i took it to a mechanic and he said i could change the tyre profile from 215/45/17 to 215/55/17 so it would give more clearance between the arch but he said my suspension is 2 soft because in the rear its quite bouncy so what would be the best things to buy as far as suspension goes, would it be lowering springs? new springs and shock or just new springs all round? or coilover kit? can you please help me cheers chunk

The PCD (5x100) might be right but it is the off set (distance between the wheel centreline and the wheel facing that bolts onto the hub) that will determine if the wheel sticks out too much. The lower the off set, the more the wheel sticks out.

Running wheels with too small an off set can cause the tyres to hit the arches, wear out wheel bearings quicker, create bump steer, introduce roll centres that move side ways etc. etc.

Me, being an old git, would say, get the wheels with the right off set to save problems afterwards.
