Advice needed about bushes and those link thingies please
#1
My car only just scraped through the last MOT with the bushes in their present state and the car is being serviced in Jan and I thought I'd get them replaced. I have a few questions:
1) Are there any particular sort I should go for? If yes, where from and roughly how much?
2) I was also advised to change from the OE Anti-Roll Bar Links (? hope I have got that right) to some steel ones (?). Is this worth doing? Again, if so, how much roughly and where can I get some from?
3) The work will probably be done at Tyres Northampton. Anyone know if TN are going to be OK fitting these parts sourced from somebody else or would TN be able to supply/fit the parts?
4) Is there any point changing the actually Anti-Roll Bar itself? I am on a bit of a tight budget at the moment.
Thanks in advance for any advice
Rikki

Rikki, I have changed most of the bushes on my 93 WRX and I used the Powerflex ones. It has made a big difference in the handling and they are available from most good accessory dealers. There are others about but I use these because although they're uprated there is still a little give in them so they aren't too harsh. The other thing is they always fit perfectly saving loads of grief! As for changing the ARB drop links you can get replacements from a company called TAS of Chorley, Lancashire. They have a website and do loads of scooby road and competition parts (VERY cheap for Group N front brake discs, £60 per pair!)Changing the links would really only benefit you if you uprated the AR bars at the same time. Don't know much about changing those so hopefully someone else can help with that. Best wishes for the New Year, Mark.

Rik,
If you uprate the OE ARB bushes then you should think about changing the rear drop links at least as these are crappy plastic and have been known to snap under "hard" driving conditions. This is more likely if you make the bushes harder.
Mark, care to post a URL m8?

OK thanks Matt and Mark.
Few more spin-off questions:
1) Could I change the bushes myself? Anyone know a source for reasonably priced Powerflex bushes?
2) Mark do you have the URL for TAS please?
3) Would I be replacing plastic Drop Links with steel?
4) What is the effect of changing:
a) just the bushes?
b) bushes and Drop Links?
c) bushes, drop-links and ARB?
5) I think I have been advised to do the rear only so that is what I am talking about at the moment. Is it OK oly doing the rear end?
6) Anyone care to post some rough prices for the above please?
Thanks again for your help/advice.

Rik,
Yes I think it is very easy (am soon to do it myself). New Age Motorsport do Powerflex bushes.
I *think* most solid drop links are ally
a) Slightly more predictable and "taught" handling but also a slight increase in road noise
b) Slighty better again than a)
c) On top of a) and b), less roll, you car corner harder but there is some debate and differing opinion about whether or not this is a good mod.....
If you are talking about bushes and drop links then yes, this is OK. Once again, I wouldn't like to advise on ARB's as I don't have enough experience of these....

Thank you very much Matt
Will be ordering the bushes and links this week and will probably get TN to do them during the service, although let me know how you get on Matt.
Rikki
PS How do you make the blocks of quotes appear like that?

Rik,
Just cut and paste the text you are replying to into your reply, put <quote> and </quote> around the text (replacing the < > characters for [ ] ) and then add your comments. Easy
Let me know how you get on too m8

How do you do sections at a time? Copy the whole lot then mess around with it in the reply box?

Why not the Whitelines? www.whiteline.com.au
They are pretty darn cheap, and have yet to hear anything bad about them.
The links will add some poise, that's for sure.

Yip,
Thats the 1s that i use and they sure do the biz. (makes it that bit tighter).
Pretty cost effective as well.
Scoobymania stocks these and i believe Townend Garage may be stocking them as well.
