Unhappy understeer

got problems with understeer any ideas on how to solve:

Whiteline 22mm rear ARB, solid rear droplinks and a good geometry set-up, backed up with good driving that should sort you out. Remember, slow in, fast out. Avoid using the brakes by planning well in advance and keep the car balanced and all input fluid and progressive. Smooth is fast !

Demon Tweeks are good for Whiteline products, and if you mention SNet there may be a bit of discount. Speak to them to confirm the correct fitment for your car as there are a confusing number of subtle variations. Should be IRO £140. The solid links are available from many places (Scoobyclinic, Scott Lowe etc) and can be had for £40ish for steel and £80+ for alloy. TBH the only justification for the alloy ones is vanity as the steel loop ones look a bit Heath-Robinson, but work perfectly well.

Get your geo done by someone who knows what they are doing and has an understanding of Scoobs. Powerstation are very respected, but I had mine done by another respected tuner and it made no difference. I then had it redone by a local specialist in geo and the bespoke settings applied to my car were nothing short of astounding. Print out the pic below and show it anyone doing the job, if their eyes glaze over then consider getting it done elsewhere

as said rear anti roll bar, but DON'T, change the front one as well, it dials the under stear back in again thats cancelled out

ARB and links are easy to do DIY, bolts off-bolts on. Geometry needs to be done by someone who knows their stuff, not just a spotty Herbert at KwikFit who's done a couple of Ford Ka's.

rite ok but not being a complete *** is geometery the same as tracking!!!!

nope tracking is but one part you also have camber/caster front/rear height and damping adjustment should you run coilovers

I do feel if you are not up to speed with these kind of terms then you can still get a great car, BUT, use a good specialist, ie Power Station and there are others too.

I say this as you will not get ripped-off, the job will be competantly done and the result will not dissapoint.

If though you are not conversant with these terms and are a DIY'er then you can make a good car dangerous!

Selling up seems a pity really? Maybe said in jest??

yea prabaably but there is so much to know and like you said little is dangerous.i wouldnt sell, wanted a scooby and have saved since i was about 16(no joke) now the proud owner of a sti ver8 just cant go around bloody corners without the front lifting and wanting to take me into the hedge. might be the right foot but im sure the last car i had (1999 wrx) was better?

The Sti should be every bit as good as the Classic, though heavier.

There are well proven components that can be fitted reasonably, and with a good alignment the car will be miles better than stock.

At a guess, about £500 will see it all done, and the difference will be very noticable, the car more stable and road manners improved; the car Subaru keep failing to make! (exception of Type C and RB320 etc)

Take a look at the Power Station site.

Default geometry in devon-somerset

just checked out powerstation.....nice, long way to go though
does anyone know of any places in devon-somerset that does this kind of geometry set up....

Easy drive for you anyway. Have a chat with Curtis, their AST suspension man direct. Their telephone system has a direct line to him.

You will not believe how much it transforms the car - I cant believe that everyone doesnt get this done. Getting the geometry set properly is the best value modification there is.

You will get back the £100 or so you spend on this in increased tyre longevity alone within the first year, let alone the improved handling

you can always sell the idea of the geometry as an economic option to help save tyre life and ensure that the car is safe to drive.
