Bump steer mod and accident
Hi, my my99 was recently involved in a heavy impact. A passing car drove into my drivers side wheel with their passenger wheel. Most of the mechanical parts behind the wheel were damaged and have been replaced. The car is fitted with Sti/prodrive suspension with eibach springs, whiteline roll bar and droplinks and finally it had the bump steer mod.
My problem is that the garage who the insurance company have sent it to, is not a specialist (very large franchise dealer). They have replaced all of the damaged parts, but now say that something isn't alligning properly, suprise suprise I thought. This has been at the back of my mind ever since it was sent there, over 7 weeks ago.
Does the bump steer mod involve work on both sides of the car? If this is the case, has replacing parts on the drivers side removed the mod from this side and not the passenger side.
What are the chances do you think of this car coming out, set -up correctly? Pretty low I think. I have given them the standard Prodrive settings to set the car up to as I thought these would be better than the standard Subaru settings. Is this correct? Powerstation originally set the car up.
I suppose the best outcome is for me to get the car back and take it on a 300 mile round trip to powerstation.
Its rubbish when a modded car gets damaged and you have no control over the repairs.
They have refused to replace 3 damaged prodrive alloys and are refurbishing and now they have told me that they have only replaced the one damaged strut. Now I am no expert, but even I know struts should be replaced in pairs only, for safety reasons.
I would appreciate any thoughts I could pass on to the muppets at the garage.

Bump steer mod is made to the location of the steering rack relative to the front geometry of the suspension.
Best get it to Pwoerstation even though the trip is a big one.
Even if they aligned it, you will be taking to PS for a real set-up.
Personally, I would have changed both struts, but repair shops do not do this kind of thing, neither do Jag dealers etc etc (As i well know).
Get the car roadworthy, and get it to PS.
Refurb wheels? Get all 4 done!

All 4 have been done, not ideal and not what I wanted, but that's insurance companies for us. They shaft you when its time to pay and shaft you again when its time for them to pay up..
I know that about the struts etc.
Just wanting to know if the bump steer mod will still be there when the other parts have been replaced etc.

Basically they shim the rack, so its anyone's guess if the guy that took the rack off noted the shims and then hopefully the same guy put the rack on at a later date.

There are two types of shim, per side, you'll only be able to see one of them.
If they didn't remove the steering rack then they'll still be there.
Better get it back to PS to make sure the numpty bodyshop / stealers put it back together right. and have a proper alignment.
All to often seen the "results" of bodyshop workmanship. Had one guy in after a rear ender and found ALL the rear subframe bolts, well not even finger tight, screwed them back in by hand
