AST Suspension (as supplied by Powerstation)
Can anyone (Fuzz!) provide an insight into the AST suspension kit?
I think one of my rear shocks might be knackered and rather than pay a high price for some replacement Subaru ones, I might as well pay a high price for some better ones.
I currently have standard shocks with Eibach Pro springs and want something similar in terms of road comfort, although I am obviously aware I'll sacrifice some comfort for better handling.
From what I've heard coilovers are rock solid and I've driven a car with the full AST suspension kit and it was too hard a ride for me for everyday use. However do AST (or any other manufacturer) offer something in between - a good quality alternative to the standard shock and at a reasonable price?
Thanks in advance.

Rich,
You can have what ever spring rates you want fitted, Geraint [novarally] started of with 40F/30R, but then changed them to 50F/40R after deciding they were to soft, mine has 60F/50R, if i remember correctly this works out at EXAMPLE:- 60 = 60nm/force = 1mm of compression, if iirc my springs are 200mm in length, [will check and edit if needs be], also need to check to see what my helper springs are, just checked they are 100/20 F/R, [That means 100mm in length and 20nm/f =1mm compression]I think.] so you see all is not lost, note the prodrive setup is supposed to be a good allround setup for a daily car, its all down to the individual at the end of the day.
Good luck.
John
Graham 911. Any thoughts on this

For a normal road spec = 40/30 and your wife will love it.
Fro real driving on UK roads (why else would you fit AST's?) then 50/40 with damping @ 9 front and 7 rear, maybe 8/6. Your wife will still like it.
For serious road/track go for 60/50 and 10/8 damping and look-out for deep pot holes as if you were a biker.
IMHO: 50/40 for a nice quick car.
Remember to compliment the AST's at the same time with
Uprated rear bar
ALKit
Curtis/Fuzz alignment job.
Car will be twice as quick in real terms.

Quite right Gaz - Bugeye WRX.
I like the sound of the adjustable AST kit but (John) doesn't it cost somewhere in the region of £1800?
If they are that much, I'm more in the market for some shocks that will enable me to retain the Eibach's (or replace them with similar) but doesn't cost me the Earth.

Does anyone incidently have experience with the AST suspension package fitted to the Forester STI. I am in 2 minds whether to get this for mine, it is however about £1000 - So would I notice an improvement if I'm only going to be driving on roads rather than tracks and airfields?
I have driven a type 25 impreza with the AST suspension and the handling was superb, but obviously the 2 can't really be compared.

I've just spoken to Curtis at Powerstation, who told me that they keep a good stock of these and all you need to do is specify what springs you want.
I'm game for a set of Sport Line with 60/50 springs, if anyone else is interested the better for a bit of discount !!!!!!

The sportline kit costs £850.00 + VAT
The £1400.00 + VAT is for the T25 Handling kit which comprises of:-
AST spotline kit,
front and rear anti roll bars,
antilift kit,
labour to fit and a 4 wheel alignment.
Regards
Rich

Sorry for the confusion.

You will not get the real potential out of the kit without all the (cheap) add-on.
Do the complete job and the results are great!
don't underestimate a 'Curtis Alignment' too.

Sport line is 'one-way' adjustable. With spring rates of 40/30 (road for a classic) then curtis is dead right (IMHO!)
If you have 50/40 rates on a classic (great for the road/track) then i think you might need more, but the 6/5 settings are a very good place to start.
The 3 way are altogether much more complicated but more refined/tunable too.
If you do have the 3 way, you will have remote gas chambers like this on the front:
