Default Prodrive springs - dealer won't supply!

I've just been reminded of the very reason that i never go to a main dealer if i can help it. Not only will they charge you the earth, but they also won't give you any service worth a bucket of p***.

CD Bramell subaru cheltenham are the offenders.

Ordered a set of prodrive springs for a classic, and when I collect them they have recieved a set of springs for a new age impreza. I tell them this and they say they will sort it out.

So I get back to them on the phone today and they now tell me that prodrive springs are not available individually - you must purchase the whole suspension set up with shocks ect with them. Even then they say they could not supply for my car as it is an import. What a load of BS.

So does anybody know a subaru garage near gloucestershire that can actually get prodrive springs for a classic?

help appreciated.

Many dealers won't touch imports especially CD Bramell, had that problem with them in the north east.

Instead of Prodrive spings consider Eibachs.
These are readly available from any decent aftermarket specialist and Eibach actaully make the springs for Prodrive

Yes, but I don't think it's same as Prodrive.

No, the eibach branded springs have different spring rates to the prodrive ones even though the prodrive are made by eibach.

Has anyone managed to buy a set of classic prodrive springs from a dealer?
I have found a place in the USA that sells them but i really don't want the hassle and time spent posting involved in this.

If anyone can tell me a dealer that will supply them id be very gratefull - all ones tried so far are not turning up with the goods.

Or maybe a part number for them would help?

Borat52,

Have a word with Powerstation (link at top of this forum). They are only up the road in Tewkesbury and I'm sure can help you out.

Cheers

We don't do a spring kit for the 'classic' car, that may be where the confusion has come from.

In the US we supply a spring kit for the models out there that is designed to run with the STi dampers, basically recreating the P1 set-up. This works over there as the dampers are very cheap for some reason, we can't get them here at a reasonable price (even our cost price is more than you can buy them for in the US!) so we haven't offered the kit.

Having said that, the Eibach/Bilstein Prodrive kit is regarded very well in the US.

Now that makes sense - was assured by someone who should know better that it was possible to get these springs from a dealer to bolt straight onto a UK car - checking on the prodrive website and seeing some classic springs confirmed this in my own head.

Thanks for clearing that up.

If i bought some Sti dampers and some springs from the USA, would these fit onto my 1993 JDM WRX wagon without a hitch?

Mike,

Am i correct in thinking the eibach/bilstein prodrive kit was used aspart of the the WR sport upgrade on a limited number of classic impreza's?

Which would you say is a better upgrade for fast road use - the P1 set up or the eibach/bilstein? I know the second is quite a bit more expensive but that does not always equate to better.

The information you have given me has saved hours of trawling through the net so far - much appreciated!!

The ultimate solution is the 'Professional' version of the kit (PDSK-IMP99A & B) and whilst it is more expensive than using the P1 suspension it has been developed without the production limitations imposed on us for the P1 in that we came up with our own damper rates rather than having to chose from ones already in production.

Agree 100%, I have tried both WR and professional kits and the second is by far the easiest to drive suspension for a classic car for road and light track use with remarkable comfort and bear in mind our roads are worse than yours in UK which makes them more demanding for a suspension kit!

Try Prodrive direct at www.prodrive.com.

They supplied me with a set of prodrive springs for the MY04 STI, I benefited from the fact that I was living in Germany at the time and they shipped them to me with the fitting instructions and Geometry settings.

The problem is for UK deliveries the website refers you to Subaru, but it might be worth a try especially for older models.

The suspension kit (springs and dampers) is available from your Subaru Dealer.
