Default Drummond motorsport (DMS) Coilovers - opinions please

Hello chaps,

considering a change from Cusco Z2Rs to ASTs next year. Having read this thread however

http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthread.php?t=461465

i'd be interested to gain a bit of knowledge about the DMS items.

Have seen this thread

http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthrea...=DMS+coilovers

as well.

Help, as always, much appreciated.

P.S. They'd for trackdays (where the Cuscos are superb) and weekend skirmishes across Dartmoor (where i'd want more compliancy then the Cuscos can offer).

J

Do you know what spring rates you run on the Cuscos?

IMHO:
Go for the new AST's as I have played with.
New, modern and easy to deal with.

I am openly bias to Powerstation to supply and fit.

The DMS's were fab and having driven in anger an Sti RA with the DMS 40mm they were fantastic (as are the AST).

No, unfortunately not. They were on the car when I bought it.

Graham, thank you mate. Ill probably go with the ASTs and I have had similarly good experiences up in Tewkesbury - but I don't want to dimiss anything.

I have to say the Cuscos perform very well on the track.

Had a look at this

http://www.dmshocks.com/docs/products.html

but it's obviously not objective. £2000, plus VAT for the 50mm.

ASTs it is then!

sorry to butt in - can anyone re-spring and valve the cuscos to something more suitable to UK roads? I've got some that could be heading bin-ward...

That's why I asked about the spring rates, you may do aswell to try softer springs before junking the package you have.

IMHO:
Golden general rule is for the rear spring rate to be 80% of the front rate.

Above rates are about 90%

I personally would go for the 275/220 or as close as you can.

Check tah the diameters and the free length of your chosen springs (especially the internal dameter) are the same as the one's you take off. The length can be adjusted for to a degree, the ID you cannot.

I know the DMS units from Austrailia are not the 'normal' UK size springs.

Graham.

Just measured my springs - 100mm outer and 74mm inner diameter. Which i take it is not a 'normal' size

Check with your supplier. The UK uses a 2 1/4 inch ID iirc.
A good bloke to chat to is Dave Kimberley at Demon Tweeks.

Yeah, it's a good idea. I did think about that option, but I have a couple of local lads who've got their eye on the Cuscos. In terms of hassle/cost I might be better off getting the ASTs fitted and flogging the Cuscos. They're in as new condition and pricey anyway so it shouldn't cost the earth to swap.
