My car (my00 Turbo) has started Creaking a lot when I turn the steering wheel. Notice when parking and slow manovering. Seems still to handle OK, but am concerened something is wrong. Creaks when I turn Either left or right. Anybody had this on their Car, or know what it could be.

I do have the bumpsteer mod on my car, but I doubt this would cause it.

One and a half year ago I also had a creaking sound when steering at large steering angles at slow speeds (MY99). At first the mechanics thought it was a top bearing of a suspension strut. After checking it had something to do with the connection of the steering housing to the car, it needed some re-thightening and/or some lubrication (they did not tell me the details). After this everything was oke. You might want to check this out.

 

My MY00 does this when parking, etc.. Would be interested in any outcome please.

Mine has also started creaking when parking.

Had the bumb steer mod done around 3 weeks ago and did not notice it before.

Would be interested in outcome.

Hi Guys,

Checked a Type R yesterday with a creak from the steering and found that the packing shim between the rack was grating against the crossmember.This car had also had the bumpsteer mod.Cannot advise on the outcome as the owner was going to speak to the people concerned.
Please note this is not a critiscm of the bumpsteer mod just a observation.

This also occured to my mine after bump steer mod.
I squirted WD40 over the packing shims and that stopped it
