Hi all.

My steering has just started to creak.
It is loud and does not sound good
Any ideas what might be causing this ?

MY99 15000 miles, bump-steer mod with ALK.

Peter are you sure its the steering? Scoobs are well known to be prone to creaking front anti roll bar bushes which may also move when you turn the steering.

You could be right....all I know is it makes the noise when I turn the wheel

Is there an easy way to determine if it is the anti roll bar bushes ?

I am just concerned about my dealer taking a look because of the packers behind the rack and the ALK

The only way to tell if its that is to take off the bushes, and grease well with copper grease. Theres only one 14mm bolt holds the ARB bush bracket to the car so itll take about 10mins to do.

Mine has just started doing this since it was stood over Xmas. My noise is kind of a relatively quiet rubber squeaking sound, sound familiar?

Thanks Mark, I'll try that...do I need to remove the lower tray to gain access ?

Otis - Mine sounds quiet from in the car, but open the bonnet and it sounds like a metallic cracking noise !

Don't know about the tray cos mine hasn't got one! Just follow the ARB from the wishbone and you'll soon find the mounting brackets.

Otis: The sound can vary from a squeaky rubbery noise to a tinny one.
