Question 03STI - Prodrive Spring Kit Problem

Very recently had the Prodrive spring kit fitted to our 03 STI and for the first couple of days everything was fine - the bouncing issue (the reason we had it fitted) seemed a lot better and all was well.

Over the last couple of days though my wife has complained that the car felt 'loose' as she put it. So today I took it to work with me and you know what she's right.

Then on the way home it got worse and worse until it felt very very loose at the rear and frankly unsafe so I slowed down from 75 to 40 for the remainder of the drive home (yes I was on the motorway ). That's when I noticed an occasional knocking sound from what I would imagine is the suspension.

Now I had no real confidence in the dealer before this, but now I am seriously pi55ed off with them. Anyone any ideas as to what may be wrong. I'm probably going to whip it in to my mate's garage on Monday as I just don't trust the dealer and I want to know what's wrong before I approach them.

Bloody frightening experience I can tell you!!!

Yeah, that was one of my thoughts as well - checked them and they're fine. Definitely think it's suspension related.

Cheers,

If you want to look yourself check the suspension top mounts in the rear turrets inside the boot space.

Many years ago I had a front shock drop out of it's mounting while driving due to a loose nut coming out. Interesting experience you wouldn't want to have on a corner.

A short while after having the Prodrive spring kit fitted, the nut and bolt holding the drop link fell off, leaving quite a wobbley car. Try looking for that, if it is, you will probably lost some bushes, so its a good time to upgrade these to solid drop links with good bushes. Good ones are powerflex or whiteline. (approx £50ish I think)
