If anyone suffers from tramlining under heavy braking or un-positive steering, try changing the top front strut mounts for Group N versions. What a difference it made to MY93 WRX. It now holds the road better than ever and handles exactly as I want it to. A bargain at £120+ £35 fitting!!

I bought the strut tops from Graham Goode Racing. 24hr delivery was most unexpected!!(Didn't pay for it)But I got a local non-Subaru garage to fit them. I could have fitted them myself but the tracking would have needed checking and for all this done for 2hours labour, why bother myself?

Mark,

Have you noticed any difference in ride (esp. noise, vibration and harshness?)

TIA

There is a slight increase in road noise and vibration but I think that this is just because they are so new. Put it this way it is not noticeable to my dad who has an eye and ear for irritations like that (Poxy Mondeo driver). Past experience with modded cars and uprated rubber bushes is that no matter how hard they are to start with they always seem to soften.

Thanks. Sounds promising. Final question: how many bits arrived? There are about three bits to the top mount AFAIK, the "cup" which has three flanges with bolt holes in it, the rubber bush itself plus another cup that receives the strut itself. Did you get all three or just the first cup and rubber?

(Asking because he's got a rattle coming out of his standard top mounts at the rear and might just as well upgrade the lot...)

Mike,
The top mounts come as a complete unit ready to fit so you get two pieces(Sold seperate though so ask for a pair). Don't know where you got the idea of them being in 2 or 3 bits, AFAIK only Group A ones are stripable (?) as they have a rosejoint bearing in them and this is held in place by a large circlip. Group N ones are basicly exactly the same as standard ones but the bearing and rubber are stronger. Hope this helps.

Thanks,

The "three bits" are the cup and rubber (2 bits, supplied ready-assembled, as you say) plus another cup that probably counts as part of the damper unit assembly.
