Upgrading Springs!
#1
Hi, I am about to upgrade the suspension on my car and I want to know the implications of using the new springs with the old dampers, while I save up for the new dampers! ;-)
Does anyone think that this could lead to dangerous/poor handling?
Is it worth it?

David,
It seems that the main problem with the Scooby suspension, are the dampers.
You don't say which car you have,UK/WRX.
The chances are that any spring bought now, would have to be replaced when you change the dampers anyway.+ the cost of fitting twice.I'd definately wait until you can afford Leda.
Mark.

A friend of mine fitted Eibach (ie Prodrive) springs to the standard dampers, and while they do lower the car and firm up the ride, when following him down country roads, I could see the car bumping up and down the whole time. He agreed that he could not make swift progress safely due to the excessive bouncing ie the car is underdamped with the new springs. Save up and do it all at once, you won't get any real benefit just changing the springs.

I've got Eibach springs on standard dampers (UK MY96) and it is very *springy*. Not anywhere as good as my previous Scoob (MY96 with Prodrive all round. The first chance I get I'll be getting Leda.
It isn't dangerous or anything, just not a real improvement over standard.
As for cost, someone mentioned fitting the suspension twice if you went the srpings route first. I know that Leda charge about £200 for fitting so add this to the equation.
Cheers

I've got the prodrive Eibach / Bilstein setup. There's a little cut-through country "road" near me that's well bumpy and rutted. In our FTO (with very firm type R suspension) it's a nightmare, the car's all over the place even at 40mph, but in the scooby, it's a piece of pi$$ to drive at 60+. The car just goes where you want it to.
