I've gone down the Autospares KYB dampers already - a great improvement to my MY96. I've also put on WRX springs (very slightly lower and stiffer than std UK) and whiteline solid droplinks.

These has cheered up the car enormously. Next step is a thicker rear swaybar - it's too thin on the pre MY97 cars.

Just got to get the geometry checked now - there's only so good you can get it on the garage floor!! I expect this to give me a little improvement on top of the above.

Prices:
Dampers - £50 per corner.
Droplinks - £71 for all 4 from Demon Tweeks
Springs - free (swapped for some things)

Would like a bit more power now. (It's in hand )

Ive had my MY99 for 28months. I am sure it wallows a bit and feels light at the rear. Its services and maintained by Subaru and I only want factory stuff at the moment.

[1]

Are there any reasonably cheap parts which I can ask Subaru to replace on the rear suspension (and front but not as important).
Any part numbers and costs (or even rough costs) would be welcomed.
ie, Bushes, links etc ??

[2]

How do you know when the rear shocks need doing? When you push the rear of the car down, it bounces back to position immediately. It that the only test? I want Subaru to replace the shocks, are the Subaru ones acceptible?

Thanks.

My MY99 feels just like that, after 62,000 miles. The front dips under braking too.
I'ld be very interested to see peoples answers to your question.

I plan to change all 4 dampers with OEM ones from www.autospares-group.com (half the price of Subaru for the identical parts apparently), plus geometry setup from Powerstation.
Also thinking about their bumpsteer correction, possibly Eibachs if the insurance company will let me.

Suggest you ask Subaru to fit the Eibach springs they fit in the PPP .. a little lower and stiffer and feels better. Go for front and rear PU bushes on the anti roll bars, and uprate the rear bar - the front bar defeats the effect of the rear bar I found even at stiffest rear seting.

Later go for stiffer STi top mounts, and dampers to suit the Eibach springs for even more benefits ...

Quick question :

Uprating the rear bar - can Subaru do this ?

How long would it take Subaru to fir 'drop links' on each corner ?

How long would it take to fit pu bushes ?

How long would it take to replace the rear bar ?

Cheers,

MKC
