Noisy shocks??
#1
Hi, My Sept 2002 WRX Wagon has made a clunking noise undereath the rear of the car almost since new. It's been recalled to Subaru UK twice. And they've had the car apart more times than I've had hot dinners. It came back to me after the second (3 month long) re-call 2 weeks ago with Subaru UK claiming they've fixed the noise. I took it to West Brom last Friday and the Tech Service manager test drove it with me and said it was due to valves opening and closing in the suspension system.
In the last two weeks, the noise (which is mst noticeable at low speeds) seems to have gradually become more freqeunt. It occurs going over bumps, and aftern changing speed or directions.
1.Is it the suspension?
2.Is it normal on Scoobs?
3.Am I being fobbed off?
4.Should I be worried?
Cheers,
Paul

I have exactly the same problem with MY02 WRX.
Sounds as though it is coming from the rear left hand side on my car! Thought at first it was the golf clubs in the boot banging the side panel.
As you have had no other replies it must just be a problem for you and me!!

Had it with the evo guys. My car was sat in the gargage for a while and thus the shocks ceased alittle. Took it back and they oiled the shocks and it cured the problem. Job done.

Probably be the shock mate, just had same problem on my Type R. Knocks at slow speeds e.g. when coming upto or out of a junction (turning left) and the weight comes off the left rear of the car a bit and knock knock knock!!!
Just took it off a few hours ago and there is a few mm of play when moving the rod in the damper so with the whole weight of the car on it it probably moves even more when it's on the car!
Good luck

thought I was going mad. Just going to collect my 02 Wagon from Days of Chelmsford. NOT managed to fix it but I am going on holiday tomorrow so need car back. They want it back again for more investigations. Please if anyone finds a solution let me know and if Days find it I'll let you know.
I found the knock started during the hot summer, but has been getting worse and it is mainly at low speeds, over slow bumps (speed bumps, sleeping policemen and the like.)

ILL TEL you what ive found
i had konis fitted and because the backs are inserts,
they are a shade smaller than the internal diameter of the insert.
hence the knocking.
on mine ,if you jack the car up you can rock the back wheels slightly.
scarey eh??

Very, very scary
It will also mean that the rear geometry is all over the place giving very unpredictable handling.
I hope you didn't pay for them.
