Thinking of getting some coilovers for the RB5 and was wondering if any of you had purchased some or had any experiences good or bad with some of the Manufacturers of springs/shocks/coilover kits?

Thanks in advance!

I'll start the ball rolling

KW Variant 3 - www.kw-gmbh.de

There's a UK importer, but not sure who.

Proflex, Ohlins and DMS Giants I would say are top of the tree but are a tad pricey - followed by DMS Gold, Leda, Bilstein PSS9, KW, H&R, AVO, Spax etc.

The Ohlins road kit isn't a coilover - looks like a standard strut and are valved (1 way adjustable) to suit Eibach springs (which aren't included).

DMS Giants are 50mm struts and are 2 way adjustable, Golds - 40mm 1 way. Only problem is you have too send them back to Aus if they fail. Springs seem a little soft for track use, but very good on road.

PPS9 use helper springs and are 1 way adjustable as are the AVO's. H&R also use helper springs but are fixed rate dampers and are fitted with very hefty 400lbs spings (all the others tend to be between 200 - 300lbs). H&R also supply Porsche.

The downside to coilovers is that they seem to have a relatively high failure rate when compared to OEM stuff...I personally know of 2 - 3 damper failures each with Leda, DMS and AVO (The AVO's rather spectacularly so).

I would be interested to hear more on the KWs as they seem to be very good value.?

Thumbs up

My first impressions of the KW's is very good and if the supplier's are to be believed they very rarely have problems with these units.
A mate of mine has just had them fitted(Fri)and he too is impressed.
I still have not moved them off the factory settings so cant say if they can be improved.
The downside at the moment seems to be delivery.
Cheers Paul.

i chose the ledas as they can build the shockers to suit your spring choice (mine are 450/275). they can also rebuild and are in the UK. pointless buying anything else for £1500 really.
