I bought these off 2 different subaru breakers last year as i had a dent in mine but never got round to replacing it. They were both advertised as sti alloy light weight boot lids. I paid quite a bit for them.

Lol name and shame the 'specialist' because no one in the Subaru community has ever come across an alloy bootlid, was a myth.

As above get a magnet on it!

Some jdm impreza models got an alloy bonnet but that's all.

If that is the case then i will take your word for it. Looks like i've been sold a item not as described . I will try and find out the 2 breakers that i bought them from and report them to ebay or though it might be a bit late now as it was a year ago! Typical fleebay nothings ever as it is described!! At least they are in good condition though i will give them that.

I've just found this one for an example, it says in the description "Lightweight sti version" so maybe there are an odd few out there? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUBARU-IMP...#ht_796wt_1163

If this is the case then im not sure why so many people out there have mentioned alloy boot lids and so many people including specialist breakers are selling them on ebay? Im not trying to cause an argument or anything, im just trying to find out the facts as i would be quite fecked off if i find out these are not alloy as i paid quite a bit extra for them!

Are we talking Alloy, or Ally (Aluminum) here? If alloy then it could contain any magnetic metal.

Oh dear Greg,I feel I need to jog your memory regarding these 'alloy' boot lids, you purchased one of these off Collin@ ignition motorsports while he repair your car after the roundabout incident??!!
Far be it me to side with members 'miss selling' items that are not what they are ,don't forget Greg you were banned on another site for doing just the same
Take heed Greg,as I would hate you to fall foul of that on here, doing what 2 people have already told you to do with a magnet is a sure fire way of testing these!
Rember people have good memorys and listening is a good idea !
Thanks all ,rant over!

The confusion could be down to translation from the jap brochures....there was an option of a alluminium boot spoiler on earlier wrx, similar design to the UK my 99 version but a bit higher .... And also the hideous s201 rear spoiler was alluminium.

The magnet never lies...

Neil, I've never bought a bootlid off Colin? These 2 boot lids came from 2 different breakers advertised as "Suabru Impreza STi classic alloy lightweight bootlid" one of the sellers made a big point out of it being lightweight not heavy steel and that's why they were charging more for it. I don't understand, if there is no such thing as a lighter weight bootlid, why so many on ebay are being sold just like the 2 that were sold to me. Yes I got one thing wrong in the past but it was a simple mistake, it was never intended. Everything else I've sold I've had 100% positive feedback from and I have worked hard to keep it that way! But that's not the point I'm trying to make here, all I've asked here is are there such a thing as a lighter weight boot lid, alloy, ally or what ever lightweight material they are suppose to use whether its magnetic or not? As no one has come forward and said there is such a thing then I will rest my case, I have been proved wrong! You learn something new every day! I will re-list the bootlids as normal sti lids. Thanks for everyone's help

All the classic wrx bootlids are the same, whether sti, UK, p1, ra or type r.
So it doesn't need to be listed as an "sti" part.

Hope this helps.
