V4 Type R fully rebuild project SOLD.
I've deceided to sell my 1998 V4 Type R. I purchased the car in December 2010, shotly after the headgasket went on the 2.2 engine, once fixed, several months later the liner on no.4 cracked. I deceided to build a new engine back in 2011 which then spiraled into re-vamping the most car. With lots of help, advise & tools off Drew.

Please take the time to have a look as it will give you a good idea of the time & effort went into the car.
I took the car out for as short run yesterday (10miles) to make sure everthing was okay with the build & it quickly became apparent, it was awful to drive (to me), & was no longer a daily driver, & due to a change in my personal life have no time of a weekend B road racer.

I'm looking for offers close to £6000 as possible, but could negotiate a deal by modifing the spec, or looking at part ex against a New Forester STI. upto 15K, if it dosen't sell as a whole i'll break it for parts.
A few pictures.
I have hundereds more pictures which are all in my build thread,
Thanks for looking

The CDB insert was done by the company that Alyn @ASP uses, they also decked the heads & reworked the under bucket shimms, AMEC engineering honed the block & gapped the rings to suit the CP pistons, apart from that it was all put together by myself. As i have been burned several times in the past with so called engine builders, either not fitting parts i asked for or doing a **** poor job to say the least. Some maybe put off that i built it myself & not by a top engine builder, but at least i know everything was measured & checked several times prior to being assembled.

I just fully read through the build thread and realised that it is self built and whole lot of time, effort, and money has been poured into this car
I take it the engine is currently being run in at the moment?

Many thanks for the comments, yes i agree the price is low, but to be fair, the engine is untested, & not built by a top engine builder, hence the low price, & yes its a bit of a gamble for the buyer, otherwise it would have been 7.5k & not a penny less. But if it all holds together, which there is no reason why it shouldn't, they have bagged themselves a bargain.
Anyway the car has now sold to a nice gentleman from London. Nice to meet you today.
Mark.

The car was taken in as a "fresh build", it's a massive risk factor running it in and hoping all goes well. So a total running in costs could be anything upto £1500, even potentially an engine rebuild if things don't go so well. Saying that, so far so good. Done 600 miles. Life can be a gamble and business is also a gamble. You win some and you lose some.
However it is a calculated gamble. Gambling 6-7.5k car yet to be run in is a big gamble, it's not your typical online poker game. This gamble is left for people like myself to run in, have it mapped, ensure everything is ok prior to the car being sold. Not everybody is cut out for taking these risks as it can potentially cost far more than one may anticipate, hence this is always left and risk factor is taken upon people like myself.
Oh i didn't see anyone rushing to buy it knowing it was a fresh build that had only covered 10 miles.

The car is Max's to do with what he wishes now, i was happy with the deal we made, yes the car was sold at a very good price but not many would have took the chance on a feshly built engine that had yet to be proven (although i have no doubts it will perform once mapped). I was well aware i could have ran the engine in had it mapped & sold it on for alot more.
Best of luck with the re-sale Max.Someones gonna get a good n, but slightly over priced IMO.

Yes Mark. It's difficult to trust people nowadays but you seemed like a very decent chap hence my purchase. A pleasure meeting you pal. So far so good. Plumbed a bit into it on fuel, oils, sorting the brakes out, 4 wheel alignment, the idling issues, put it through an mot and taxed it today. Just got some motul 300v in for servicing once i have done 1200 miles which should be next week at some point. Done 950 miles now and the engine seems to have settled really nicely (not anywhere near as loud as it was in the first 500 miles before dropping the running in oil).
It's a bit of a chance, never been a gambler but this is more exciting. Let's hope all goes well. Off to see Simon @ jgm next week for mapping.
