2004 Blobeye STI with some very nice goodies
________________________________________
Hi and Welcome

I bought this car this year with nice modification already done, with the vision of taking it to 450-500bhp that can be used on track, however I have had to restrict my spending due to other commitments. Although I have taken the car to 400+bhp with handling to boot, I simply haven’t the spare cash and time to complete the power transformation, nor time to use the car as I would have liked.

In the last two months I have spent a small fortune on the car, this includes the purchase of a Andrew Forrest 20G Turbo, Roger Clark Motorsport Induction, K&N Large Cone Filter, Cold Air Fog Feed and Trumpets, 900cc Reflowed by Lateral Injectors, D2 Oil Catch Can, 3” Complete DC Exhaust System, Ported Headers by Harvey Smith with a trick up pipe, 3 Port Boost solenoid, and 8 Pot Ksport front brake conversion. All the work was undertaken by CAMS Performance Subaru Specialist. The total cost for all this was in excess of £3’000, then followed the all important remap by Andrew Carr from TeamCarr at £450.

The remap is Speed Density Conversion which runs mafless, which currently includes 2 maps (Vpower or Tesco 99, and also a second map for Vpower or Tesco 99 plus 20% meth), GpN Anti Lag System, Launch Control, Flat Foot Shift (currently deactivated as I’m not a fan of changing gear without lifting off the throttle), and In gear Boost control.

The car runs sweet, and the power delivery is very smooth, the brakes have been installed with Yellow Stuff pads which are unbelievably sharp especially when hot, and the ride is certainly far from standard meaning the car will push, weave and brake hard.

With only 4 previous owners whom most were/are enthusiasts (John Pye, Storm, Engine tuner, me) the car has always been cared for regardless of the cost. There is full service history which includes a cam belt change, and a more recent spec upgrade including yet again another service.

The 8 Pot brake callipers are from Duncan Graham’s time attack car, and have been refreshed. The Callipers are indeed monster 8 pots, and the Rotors, Pads and Braided lines are brand new. The bells have been re-drilled to suit 5x100pcd as they were originally 5x114.3pcd.

The spec list is per below, and although care has been taken not to blow my budget, nothing has been skimped on, so only quality products have been used.

There are some minor marks on the car that will elbow grease out (I will attempt to sort this week), and one wheel has some minor curbing. The interior is faultless, and the additional extras have been tastefully installed making it a very nice place to sit.

The Engine is sweet, Andrew Carr commented on how smooth and safe it was when mapping, and how well the Turbo reacted to the Meth map. The Gearbox is as it should be, no unusual noises, no crunching or synco issues. Brakes.... well they are awesome end of! Interior is factory black/ Blue suede type finish with the only additions being some nice STI foot mats, Defi Guages, two switches for map & Anti Lag, and the ICE system which is DVD player, SatNav, Hands free kit, as well as a touch screen typical car stereo.

The car has not been on track although that was the intention going by my spec change to what it is now. The Anti Lag system is a proper GpN product and actual does operate as Anti lag does in the WRC. Not just pops and bangs but actually keeps the Turbo spooled through gear changing. The DC Exhaust is sweet and not too loud, I creep off to work in it occasionally and I havent as yet had any complaints for the neighbours, so it will be track friendly. I would say it is ever so slightly louder than a Miltek I have once owned, but by no means as loud as the horrid Blitz nur spec or Jap Speeds. I wont deny that the anti lag is loud, because it certainly wakes me up. Not used often at all as its not street friendly, but it certainly does what it says on the tin. Launch control is vicious but works a treat pinning you back in the seat. I could go on all day about the car so I shall end it there and list the spec as per below.

Hey Martin,

As said in the PM i'll get a price in mind later today when I have worked out my recent spending. However I was PM'd last night with a 7k offer which I refused.

Speed Density Conversion, which includes 2 maps, GpN ALS, LC @ 5800 currently, FFS (currently deactivated as Im not a fan of flat foot change), In gear Boost control to 1.6bar I think (I will confirm from my Defi's)

Clutch was in the car when I got it, so I cant comment exactly, but Im under the impression its on the standard clutch which does Launch, and does not slip. I can record and supply footage for proof if required

Few more pics.

Apologies for the poor quality (iphone), and the colour of the car, but its been sat in the garage for almost three weeks whilst ive been away.

The splitter can be repaired and put back on if required. If im honest it looks better on, but as seen by the pics above it quite low with it on and catches on 50% of speed humps ;(

I know mate, I shouldn’t really do it, but I’m simply not going to have the resources to do anything with it further this year. However should I not get an offer very close to the ask price I’ll likely de-spec it and sell the car cheaper and keep some goodies for the future, in fact I’m liking this idea more and more I think about it . Grrr that’s got my head spinning now (doh

Love the car mate but how come people say they want this much for the car but i can de spec it and sell it for less ? Whenever i have sold a scooby thats well speced i get told oh well you never get your money back for tuning a car ? I dont mean any thing funny towards you mate or the car its a corker but tuning a car only makes it more sellable not more valuable or so i have been told many times.

Because a car of that spec with good number of owners and backed with plenty of history, sat at that mileage in its own right is worth anything up to and around the £7k mark (give or take to right buyer) somebody wanting a nice clean standard example will pay that money as its not seen as expensive, yet throw the extra cost of the parts it has at it and people think its expensive, its all about feeling you got a good car for a good price, so if he de-specs it, sells it as standard and sells the parts seperate he will make more money on the car as the parts are worth a good price to the guys on here for example. People dont see that they are prepared to spend money on a standard model then throw £££'s at it to get it to the spec it is now when u could have bought a mint example like this with it all done for less money than it will buying one standard and tuning it lol, madness if you ask me, car is worth that money all day long imo and no doubt will sell soon to somebody who knows what their getting

Carl you are kind of right, and in half the cases your scenario is exactly what does happen. However it is all about reflecting the price to what people are prepared to pay, not what the car is worth in terms of actual build/spec costs. The car is worth more than I have put it up in my opinion as I know what has gone into it, but an element of what you have said forces the price down. Take some of the non special classics I have seen on here recently that are anything over £9'000 becuase they have great engine builds running 500+. You cant tell me any standard classic (non special) is worth £9'000 in standard form unless its sub 30'000 miles in concours condition, yet the sellers know that some serious money has been thrown at them, yet only want a fraction of the monies thrown at it in resale.

Mine case is clear, the car if "standard" is worth whatever its worth, you can decided that amongst yourselves. Then the cost of all the goodies on top comes to a tidy sum. Im not asking for the price of Standard car, plus Ksports, plus AF20G, plus RCM intake, plus Headers, plus remap, plus Defi, plus BC coilovers, etc etc. Im asking for what I think the car will sell at comfortably.

As I have said I am in no push to sell, its only up for sale as I havent time nor funds to use it this year as I would like, and I dont like the thought of having it sat in the garage doing nothing until next year, nor being developed further as I wanted to do. The only reason I wont be going further with the car is due to serious home renovations that is draining any spare funds I had, plus I have recently got married which as most of you know aint cheap! However most of the major works to the house have now been done and paid for, so the serious cash spending is out of the way. The sale of the car would just replenish my bank account, so the options of putting some parts back to standard excluding the suspension, wheels and lights making the car still very appealing to the eye would make the car still very saleable, and yet all the parts removed would nicely sit in my garage for a future car

Don't want to come across as a vulture but if you want to remover the BC BRs I'll swap you for my std shockies with prodrive springs plus £400 your way so you could say to whoever offered you the £7500 they could have it with that set up for the £7500 and only be £100 off the asking price?

Im going to give the car a little longer to sell as it is, then I will be looking at my options.

The trouble with removing the BC's is that the car "looks the part" so even if its de-tuned, the looks and handling alone would help sell the car.

I'll give it some further thought next week if its unsold.

LOL

The amount of £7500 offers I have had is unreal.

Has a loan shark got an offer on borrowing £7500 at the moment or something

Yesterday I was offered £7800 if I hold the car until September.

Just to be clear here, Im not playing an auction run, I clearly dont want to let the car go for £7500, and as I have an abundance of offers of that amount I may as well hold out for ask price or as near as damn it. I mean its on eBay too at £8250 (cover fees and the hassle ebay brings), and the offers through eBay have all been above £7250 too.

One thing I will not be doing is agreeing a price for someone to come and view, drive, tyre kick and then start haggling me down. I will simply put her back in the garage. I know what the car is worth, and I know it been looked after. Yes it has some age related marks such as minor stone chips on the bonnet, the odd small laquer scratch which I have been informed will buff out. One wheel has minor curbing, and the exhaust tip needs metal polishing

I know what your saying, but it's not worth breaking buddy. De-tune and sell yes, but not spilt completely.

I'm of the opinion rough cars are breakers, or damaged ones. Odd occasion you see minters, but it's a shame

Me no

I went out in the car today, makes me want to reconsider selling it, especially if I get another eBay visitor

Someone (eBay chap and wife) test drove it today from Leeds, and picked at it to death to point of the small stone chips etc. He offered me £7'000, I refused and he the (10 mins later) offered me £7'100. I could see where this was going so I promptly put the car in the garage to where he continued with another £100 increment offer.... He then said that he would need to re-tax the car in 8 months WTF

Don't want to pop any bubbles and it does look amazing but amount of watches mean nothing... I watch endless stuff just to see what it sells for with no intentions of buying it.
