Default 52 Reg Bugeye Wagon PPP for sale

It's sad to have to sell her after 12 years ownership. The car has blown a head

gasket the day after she passed the mot on 3 Aug (2017) she has covered 121,380 miles. The timing belt and tensioners were replaced at 90,721 miles along with used STI 8 suspension all round, the front and rear wheel alignment and camber was adjusted by ABP motorsport afterwards.

I'm not used to the 'cars for sale' forum as you can see I have not said what I want for my Scooby Wagon but I don't know what it's worth or maybe I should have it repaired.Any offers to buy or fix it? Des 07831 816686 Crewe Cheshire

I suspect £800 would have it running again if that helps?

As a fellow ex bug eye wagon owner, I'd say fixing it is quite risky in monetary terms.

The bug eye wagons are worth nowhere near the same amount as the saloons, because most people find them so ugly (I don't, and my car looked exactly like yours (Morettes, STI wheels, PPP exhaust), except I also had a mid level boot spoiler as well, as it happens).

Because of the above issues, you'll sadly struggle to get any decent money for it The bug eye wagons tend to languish around and then eventually get sold for somewhere far south of 2000, unfortunately.

Mine eventually sold for 2000, but it was fully working, had a reasonable amount of engine upgrades (STI intercooler, sports cat exhaust, decat headers, sti pink injectors, td05-16g turbo, near new suspension, upgraded anti roll bars + brakes etc etc).

There were a couple of bug eye wagons late last year or early this year that sold for 1200 quid, and they were a bit ratty looking, arguably, but not massively so IMO.

If it was my car, I'd cut my losses if I was thinking of selling anyway (i.e. if you'd keep it after fixing, it's a different story to fixing to sell, IMO).

Thanks for your comments Henrik I think you've summed it up. So what would you ask for my wagon and who would buy her? I agree about some people finding wagons ugly, I was on morrisons car park not long after I bought the car when I heard a little boy say to his friend "it's just like a Subaru but with a funny back on it"
I have the spoiler that fits above rear window, I took it off in case I needed to to carry my ladders when my van was off the road.
What shall I do then, take my Wagon to the scrap yard or Ebay for parts or repair?

Why not get some proper quotes to repair it ?

If you get if fixed, you are in a stronger position to sell it at a later date as a 'runner'

You know where it has been and how it has been looked after for the last 12 years, if you get rid of it and then look for something else, you are buying an unknown quantity.

If you decide to sell it 'as is' you have a few options, on here and Ebay as spares or repair (£1000 maybe ?)

Sell any bits you can and then scrap the shell ? (gearbox £150, doors £25-40 each, bonnet £50, tailgate £50, alloys £150-£200, Morrettes ?, bottom end £200, etc.)

Hi JDM, Thanks for your input, I was on a dual carriageway when this pinking sound I was blaming on morrisons petrol seemed to get a LOT worse the car was losing power and temp gauge going up so I switched off and coasted to a halt to be towed home by the AA.
The next day I saw the bottom hose had come off so I put it back on with a new jubilee clip filled it up with water (there was none in the oil) and fired her up, immediately my suspicions seemed correct BIG bubbles came up from plastic overflow tank which to me meant head gasket blown.
I've had a quote in Cheshire of £1,200 for both heads inc vat and a company in Fleetwood quoted £1000 they also said they would prob give me £1,000 for the car but would have to come down to Crewe to listen to the engine to make sure the bottom end is ok but they didn't turn up and I haven't had any replies to my messages yet.
I'm open to reasonable offers now for the car because like Henrik said it's probably not worth fixing and I can't dismantle it myself for spares on the drive

Hi 'The Voices' I'm grateful for all the advice, looks like it may be a better option to offer it for sale.
So would anyone like to take it for 'spares or repair' please

Personally, if I could get 1000 for the car as it stands, I'd take that. It's got an STI8 block, which will add some value for someone breaking it (and/or fixing it).

Re breaking it yourself:
Breaking a car yourself is a massive ball ache, IMO, and impossible if you haven't got enough space to store bits or time to do it... For me, it wouldn't be worth it, but for someone who specialises in this, of course it's a different kettle of fish again, as they'd have the space and be used to ripping a car apart (so it'd take them less than a day, as opposed to 3 for a normal person etc etc.
I've done this previously with a Saab, and although I made some money over just selling it as it stood, it definitely was not worth it in terms of time vs money for me.

How about sticking it on ebay, and trying to sell it on the good points (decent body, sti block etc etc). I probably wouldn't do an auction to begin with, but rather a fixed price, as otherwise you might end up accidentally selling it for 200 or something stupid like that

I assume this is Scoobyspares?

Failing that try ringing Brian at Cams Performance, I am sure he will either buy it off you (no idea what he would give you for it) and put an engine it to sell on, or fix it for you

have all wrx wagons got an Sti block Henrik or just bugeyes?
I may try E bay and Cams Performance as suggested by Rob Day.
Would it be best to say spares or repair £1200 and add 'make an offer?
Talking of saabs I had 2 classic 900 Turbos one of them was a white carlsson. My missus still has a mint classic 900 T16s K reg low miles. She often gets 'do you want to sell it' notes left on the car wipers.
Thanks again everybody for all this advice

Try eBay like you mentioned - can't hurt
