Widetrack STI, coilovers, Spec C interior, 330bhp NEW PICS
****Now Sold****
2005 Subaru Impreza STI Type UK – Widetrack
Located in Lancashire, 10 mins from M65 Jct 8.
Crystal grey (Depending on sunlight/time of day this can appear as anything from gunmental grey to silver to a champagne gold colour in bright light).
Approx 92,000 miles
2 previous owners. The first owner from new until approx 70,000 miles. The next owner until 74,000 miles, then me.
Recent professionally repainted wheels.
12 months MOT
Thatcham Cat 1 alarm (most likely to be required for your insurance, like it was for me)
Tracker (subscription lapsed and not renewed)
During my ownershop the car has only ever been run on Shell V Power Nitro, and cared for by Brian and Tim at CAMS in Darwen, Lancashire. In my opinion these are THE go to guys for Subarus. Knowledge is second to none and service is excellent.
Tasteful modifications
Being a widetrack model this car benefits from (amongst other things) the updated & greatly improved Hawkeye (2006 onwards) centre console. Also the car is fitted as standard with Subaru’s DCCD gearbox (Driver Controlled Centre Diff) which allows you to alter the power distribution from a more rearwheel driven bias, although not fully RWD; right to the fully locked position (ideal in snow) more akin to a traditional 4x4. This also features an auto mode, where the cars many sensors do the hard work and distribute the power as the system sees fit.
This gearbox combined with the bulletproof 2.0 engine (when run on 99 octane fuel such as Shell V Power) bridges the gap between the previous UK market newage-Imprezas with the stronger 2.0l engines but no DCCD and the later Hawkeye 06-on cars with DCCD but the more failure prone 2.5l block.
Modifications:
First and foremost, the car has been remapped by Andy Carr to produce approx 330bhp. This is a very smooth map as opposed to the big dollop of torque at 4000rpm in PPP form it used to have. It is now very smooth and pulls throughout the rev range. This was done along with supporting mods such as an Invo performance panel air filter, and Milltek exhaust with centre section, and uprated Walbro 255lph fuel pump (all at the recommendation of CAMS Performance). The remap has also made driving off boost a lot smoother. It has probably increased miles to a tank, but don’t expect diesel-like figures... Total £800
HSD Monopro Coilover. These coilovers are the higher quality of the 2 ranges sold by Driftworks in the UK. They are damping and ride height adjustable. They provide a firm, stiff but compliant ride, and the handling as a result is excellent. These are regarded as being the best sub £1500 coilover system on the market. Total £650
AS Performance solid gearshift bushes. In an attempt to make the shift feel more solid, rather than heading down the short shifter route, I decided to remove the slop from the linkage’s 9 year old soft rubber bushes. These have improved the feel of the shift no end.
The car has been treated to a full black interior (front & back seats) from a WR1/Spec C, meaning that these are black alcantara instead of the usual blue & black design. To match this, the car has been fitted with correct 2005 black doorcards (different controls to earlier models) and a matching dark grey carpet. Mats were also purchased at the same time.
Braided hoses.
JVC double din CD player with matching illumination & ipod connectivity/USB port.

Bad points:
-A few stone chips & age related marks, but nothing out of the ordinary for a 10 year old car.
-The alarm is a little temperamental. When locking, instead of flashing the indicators twice, it now flashes twice, then a further 8 times. It is also very sensitive to wind/passing lorries. The arm/disarm beep also doesn’t go off everytime you lock/unlock the car. However the car is totally secure.
-The car has a light, hardly visible dent in the bootlid from a neighbours child’s football. Its not the full size of the football! Its approx 3" in diameter. This is not greatly-noticeable (as per the pictures) and could probably be sorted with little effort. However a replacement bootlid will be supplied with the car from a WRX model (less holes for smaller spoiler). I planned to run this wingless, with the spoiler holes filled & smoothed so it will need spraying to match the car. It’s currently black and has superficial marks from storage.
Overall:
This is a great car that has never ceased to amaze me. Writing this advert has actually made me a bit sad that I’ll be seeing the back of it. It’s genuinely rapid in the right circumstances, and in the recent snow, even with the summer Bridgestone tyres it managed perfectly with no drama. This was thanks to the locking diff and the AWD system. It truly is a do-everything car. It has carried me and 3 friends across the country with an iPod on, in comfort, and has also supplied many spirited blasts through the Lake District and across Buttertubs Pass.
The reason for sale is simple: I have come to a point where if I was to spend any more money on modifying it, I would be throwing money down the drain and also potentially ruining a very versatile all rounder. Also, my next move was to be a set of wide 18” alloys, and having a car of this nature in such good condition, to then run lots of negative camber, and attack the arches with an angle grinder just didn’t seem right. To me it is about driveability first and foremost. This car was designed to be driven, and is a much more capable car than I am a driver. As a result I started to look elsewhere. I plan to buy a house next year and so I’ve decided to buy something cheaper to run and RWD, and enjoy more roadtrips and trackdays.
This is a preliminary advert to give any members on here a chance before it
goes onto Pistonheads, Autotrader, eBay etc.
As with most cars I've sold, I'll consider sensible offers.
£8300ono

Yeah I'm on E38! I'm selling as I fancy a change, also I don't get much chance to use it as intended, so I'm not getting the full benefit. Also, if I keep it I'll get stuck into modifying it and end up not being able to sell it when it comes to buying a house...

Just to confirm, the spare black bootlid will come AS WELL as the standard bootlid shown above, and the small dent is on the photos above. As you can see its not a major thing, just being honest.
