Default Does anyone else find front mounted intercoolers rather ugly on the classic impreza

I'm 320+ bhp on my classic STi v6 and I'm really going to need to change the intercooler to get to my goal of 400. I've seen a great post by Scott. T on fitting the STi 8 intercooler to the classic but saw there were a few problems with the strutt brace. I just find the front mounted intercoolers on the classic look so tacky and tend to just look like the kind of cars you'd see outside McDonalds.

I find front mounted intercoolers on the newage look quite sleek but the classics just make me not want one. This is probably the nicest one I've seen, (although I haven't seen a lot) http://media.fastcar.co.uk/wp-conten...08/4cdf_16.jpg

What are other people's opinions on front mounted intercoolers?

No problems at all with front mounts that sit behind the bumper, but I hate when people have big cut outs and the intercooler sits in or even Infront of the bumper!

That intercooler looks rather nice blu.. which one is it and did you hvae to cut out any of the bumper at all?

Is that number plate legal? I've wanted a small one but figured it's not worth the £1000 spot fine

It looks like a Hybrid GT or GT2.

Yes, you need to cut the bumper, quite a lot needs to be removed. I've watched it done and it's a skilled job.

As long as it's a jdm import then a smaller number plate is not illegal. As for the looks on the classic I think they look smart but I'm gonna say that as I've just bought one lol

That's the nicest you've seen?

Where have you been looking? The amount it underhangs the bumper is ridiculous for starters.

Mine since I've lost my splitter.

And one from not long before I lost it.

I think its a Hybrid or similar, don't actually know as I got it 2nd hand!!

As alcazar said there is a fair amount of cutting to be done. I just did it bit by bit until it fitted well. I added 2" to the bottom of my bumper to cover the bottom, no mean feat, but looks factory - bet you didn't even notice

I'd agree and I'm going to get mine painted when the engines out.

They don't stay black for long as every stone chip shows up silver. After years of black I've recently given up and left it natural alloy colour

I have a satin black metal mesh - with small 'honeycombs' whose shape ape the ones in the OEM MY99/00 grille - in front of mine. Professionally fitted by API.

Looks perfectly 'OEM' if you ask me (indeed, if you were none the wiser, you'd never know).

I'll take some when I get her back.

It's offensive isn't it, a p1 splitter, a screwdriver and a bin might rescue it.
