Default Advise with detango and de-badging

I've been thinking whether to de-tango and de-badge the scoob.

What are peoples suggestions into attempting this process please?

I don't want to de-badge if I end up damaging the paint work or making dents as I price the badges off.

I also like the idea of replacing the front blob number plate by replacing with a smaller, shorter one - does anyone know what size I can reduce to which is within legal road limits.

Thanks

Chet

Badges are easy, don't pry them off use dental floss to get the actual badge off.

You'l be left with the sticky residue but that will come off easily, I used tar remover on it and it came off no problem.

Easily done Chet!

Hair drier and dental floss for the badges at the back. I just removed the SUBARU logo and left the rest.

Detango headlights is easy enough. Just keep the heat on low and keep trying to pull the headlights apart every few minutes. It looks much better

Smaller plate also looks much better, not sure on what size is legal, but so long as the font is the legal size and I think there is a certain amount of border around the font it's fine.

Cheers all. I'd love the boot to have a clean look without the big "subaru" spread across the entire boot surface. Atleast these are suttle exterior mods which can be done on the driveway.

I'd better get the oven on and the hair drier out. Not sure if my wifes pesky hair drier is upto the job though, believe me its not the best hair drier she owns but I'll have a crack at it this weekend no that I have an idea

Opted not to de-tango the headlights due to effort but have debadged which I'm almost completely impressed with once I've totally removed the badge markings. The rubbery double sided tape is off but got the badge outline to remove. I've been scrubbing hard and isn't far off from being completely removed. Personaly .......am liking the flush boot lid

I removed all of my badges on the boot except the STi of course. Makes the car look so much fresher IMO.

I simply heated the area (low heat) and used tar remover. Came off a treat.

Give the de tangoin a go , it's easy , took me about 2 hours all together and blacked out the inside , all done with a hair dryer and flat head screwdriver , IMO looks mean and for good measure today I fly eyed the rear lights because they stood out a bit too much ,
Think I might take the subaru boot badge of myself or somehow make them black .

After

WD-40 will easily remove sticker glue residues without affecting your paintwork.

This.

Saves buying a bottle of £8 tar remover you'll use twice. Hairdrier is essential also.

Using wd-40 what do you do just spray it on and wipe it away or scrub with a cloth????

If this works that's fantastic as I still have very slight letter markings which I continually polish out. Not buying buying tar remover for a cap full of use

spray on cloth and glue, then rub gently.

When you're done you can remove the oily stains with window cleaner or anything alcohol-based. I wouldn't use paint thinner though LOL

Cheers GotBoost? rather than spend £9 for a tar remover and use a 50 pence piece worth of it I went and bought a small bottle of WD-40 which i'm sure will become more useful in future. Going to try whats suggested tonight.

hum WD40 didnt work as effective as I first thought, however it did take some more of the residual off but not as much as expected.

I think I will give it a couple more coats with the WD40, wash, more polish, WD40, wash etc etc

So tempted to de-tango the headlights but worried if its not sealed correctly that I'll get condesation appearing or rain seeping through

WD40 only works once you have the foam stuff picked off.
I have a caramel wheel (called that because its what it smells of!!) which is like a big rubber wheel you put in a drill and rub over the residue. It removes it in seconds without damaging the paintwork!

Number plates can be legally cut down to within 11mm of the letters, provided the BS mark is still visible. Anything with smaller digits is illegal I'm afraid.

i used the caramel wheel thingy. My old man gave it to me, pretty clever bit of tool really once the foam bit it off but it did work on the foam also.

I have all the foam of its just the slight edging of the previous letters which is still visable when you look very very closely

That'll be where the letters have marked the paint over the years. It'll need buffing out to get rid of them completely.
