Not sure on the size you want, but, they are and you'll get pulled by the law loads of times and have your plate taken off you.

However I'll admit the small bike plates look mega, plod have already plonked 6pts on my previosuly clean liscence i wouldnt like to make it 9 so...
Also was looking into this a lot on the last car as i wanted pressed metal, the law is very particular about spacing, reflectivity, type, size of type etc, luckily the guys on the road are too stupid or lazy to notice so you may be ok with your smaller plates, whats more the fronts good because by the time they turn around your gone!
The main thing they look for first though is the postcode on the bottom of the plate, if it has one they know its legal, as soon as you dont have one it increase the liklihood they notice something

If you put a legal square one on like i did the other day it covers the square bit perfect sits nice against the lower part and looks proper jap.

size, without measuring i'd say the same as mickeywrx 24x17cm any smaller and its a bike plate making it illegal so your normal car store wont make you one, however if you do want to test your look and go smaller ebay sellers will make you anything...
for show use

Those kind chaps at Halfords made it, they do actually have some uses.
Legislation is a load of crap, but, general rule of thumb is,
UK Car = Rectangular plates only
JDM Car = Square plates allowed.
Mine being a JDM car I tend to do as I please.
Eddy has been having loads of Police hassle with his number plate, including square plate on UK car IIRC. It's pot luck with the coppers I think though.

Only some of them know the law, most make it up as they go along...

Same size as mine - had it on for 5 years with no problem.
Make sure the font is the correct one ( if smaller) and the plate looks as normal as possible otherwise and they don't seem to bother/ notice.
Once you get into italics / odd spacing and that sort of nonsense then they get chippy.

hi as Mickywrx said, ive been having loads of bother, i had 13x7 import plates on my car.The rear is genuine 13x 7.. the front has been chopped at the top and bottom so it looks like a rectangle shape but smaller width if you get me. When i had standard reg, it was fine, no issues.
Put a private reg on and i got pulled over after 6 months and the traffic officers took pictures, gave me letters put a marker on the car .. sods law i got pulled over bank holiday weeeknd in which i got pulled over 3 times in just over 24 hours .. police said they had a marker saying check number plates have been changed as they have to be rectangle and larger font on my car.. anyways got them changed
now run a completely legal front plate , correct font size etc. as stipulated by the documents that the police gave me, all margins correct etc. halfords can make them for you, if you have a 5 digit private reg.. believe the plate is called a short standard one , its 370mm by 110mm if i remember correctly, has bs number and company name etc.
on the rear i run one of those large uk ones, think they are 533mm by 152mm, again with bs number and company nam,e.. also think they look loads better than regular uk plates.
Also another thing to note after the police pulled me over that bank holiday weekend, is dvla sent me a letter to my house saying i have 28 days for the number plates to be changed and photogrpahic evidence sent back otherwise the plate will be eprmenately removed and the car put on a q plate under some certain legislation/section of the law.. also had to inform them where i got the previous illegal import plates from too.. was a hassslle as i was getting opulled over every few days but now its all clear and the case has been closed.
Note. this situation i was in was because mine is a 2001+ car where the laws changed.. pre 2001 will probs get away with import plates on the car.. i had them on my previous car for 3 years.. but its your call, up to you if you wanna take the gamble, but believe me not worth it when your getting pulled constanlty and you have family in the car.
