Help please, from someone who can paint
Hi
The lacquer on my bonnet scoop has peeled off and it looks horrible.
I've got a replacement scoop to practice on and I'm attempting the respray myself. Got primer, colour, lacquer, rubbing compound and some wet n dry paper from paints4u, but I'm not really sure what I'm doing and wanted some advice.
I've made a start.
Rubbed down, few coats of primer, left for a couple of days, smoothed it down with some 1000 paper and applied several this coats of colour (deep blue mica).
Should I smooth it down again before the lacquer, or just apply it straight to the dried paint?
It looks as though it won't be a very smooth texture when it's dry.
If the lacquer drys with the same texture it's gonna look crap. I'm not confident here!
Any advice would be appreciated.
Cheers guys.

Ideally i would have waited for the colour coat to have gone tacky and then lacquered straight over it.
The colour coat when applied should consist of thin coats only as this guarantees an even finish with an overlap of each pass of approx 50%
You can go over it with wet and dry as mentioned above, but be very careful you don't go right through the paint layer.
Remember not to get to much lacquer in 1 spot and ensure each coat of lacquer is tacky before applying the next, lacquer cannot be misted (otherwise it will be very orange peely)
Remember with painting - Never panic as it can be sanded and re-done. Good Luck mate.
