Default advice please - chip on rear bumper

hi, recently got back to my car and found this on the rear bumper
have had a quote to get the whole rear bumper resprayed for £150 but as there is a recession on and I cant afford that right now I thought I would have a go myself, it doesn't have to be a deVincini masterpiece but anything should look better than this! I have some paint made up, which I was thinking of applying with a small brush but what kind of preperation should I do?

You can see the paint has 'crack marks' that stretch away from the chip, can I sand this down, apply some primer and spray over, or is this asking for trouble and should I just worry about making it appear better than it is.

All advice welcome please!

hi mate i work in bodyshop and in my opinion its hard for us to get paint work spot on especially if its silver or a colour with a lot of metakic in it,if you touch it in it sometimes looks worse as it sticks out more,by all means have a go but you might want to save that money and get done at paint shop.

Hi Ian. I would leave it. You will make it worse if you try and fix it yourself. The cracks will react if you don't fully sand them back. Aerosol primer will pick up on the edges of the paint and make it look awful. It needs sanding back, plastic adhesion promoter and 2k primer, then spraying! If need any help, let me know. Tim

cheers Tim, I left it alone until yesterday when I sprayed some paint into an aerosol lid, and applied some with a small brush, nowhere near amazing just covers up the plastic of the bumper. As soon as I can afford it it will be off to a bodyshop!
