as long as its standard size with no stupid lettering (see loads of saxo's )
you should be fine.

some times it depends on the copper who pulls you.

No, number plates must meet the British Standard requirements and we are not aware of any self-adhesive number plates that are able to meet these requirements

Is that really taken from the DVLA site?? Cuz that is surely bullsh*t! Most new cars these days have got self-adhesive number plates cuz fixings look untidy. Mine are self-adhesive on the scoob (I put 'em on). As long as they go in the proper place, I don't see why the fixing method matters!? (as long as it's not blue-tak or selotape like)

He's not on about sticking it on with d/s tape, but an actual sticky reflective sheet.

Mate,

you are fine with a stick on number plate as long as its standard size and style with the normal reflective background.

Im an osu copper (riot police) and ive asked the wise old men on traffic and they agree.

Just joined today and quick note to say I ran a modified MK3 Golf with a stick on front number plate (plastic self adhesive sheet) for over 4 years with no probs but technically it is illegal and if someone wants to get REALLY picky you could get pulled for it.
Got it from a company called Readyrads Ltd in Birmingham 0121 7710022.
That was a few years ago so Ive got no idea if they are still in business.

can someone put me straight, can a normal number plate be stuck onto a front splitter? am getting a splitter soon and wanted to stick my front number plate onto it with the sticky adhesives that came with it so i can mesh up my front bumper space.

is that allowed or not?

not too sure of the legality but as long as its not too horizontal you should be fine.I dont think height off the ground makes any difference, just how visible it is to others.Have a look in the gallery and see if anyone else has done something similar.

i have seen lots of other scoobies putting the numer plate on their splitter but alot of them seem to be sticker type number plates. Ive been given some lush normal plates for me birthday and wanted to see about sticking that on my front splitter.

Might be worth trying a search for a site that deals with MOT regs and see, otherwise have a word with whoever MOTs your car.As long as they will pass it you should be reasonably OK.I used to get a note on my MOT that the stick on plate wasnt reflective enough but it never failed the car and I was never pulled for it so as a rule if it passes an MOT it,ll generally be OK.

I got pulled recently for a stick on number plate. As far as I'm aware and you are talking about the thin plastic self adhesive sheets. I didn't think anyone sells reflective ones.

The 'officer' (just in case he reads this) who pulled me also said that they have to be vertical or they cant be read in case someone steals your car. Didnt believe him when he said that. More than likely would avoid three points.

And for some reason he didn't believe me when he said impreza's are really fast and I replied 'I don't know'.

Keep smiling.

Plod told my mate a few year ago, that if he saw the numberplate stuck on the bonnet he had to report him, he said to plod, "I also have the original on the front bumper", plod said did not matter, bonnet was illegal, mate went to see the Sarg, who told plod, you thick W*******r I meant if only on bonnet,

My mates MG has a stick on plate on the rear, and he's a copper, I'll tell him it's illegal! Haha
