i was wondering how to get the individual unit out of the cluster...the subaru dealers said i need to remove the grill, and then get the whole cluster out to change the light...

Yep, grille off, then grille sidepieces off then remove full headlight unit (3 bolts - two on front behind where sidepieces were and one on top by wing).
Might be an idea to mark the light beam / cutoff on a wall etc before you start as it'll save a hell of a lot of messing about realigning them properly from scratch rather than just making sure the beam is back in the same place...
I never needed to take out an individual lens so can't really advise on that bit could be a good idea to either mark up some bits to get a known reference point to compare the old and new assemblies...

well, i managed it, and it didnt take very long at all...alot easier than replacing bulbs/light units on the old pop-ups on my celica...i lost one of those plastic poppers that hold in the grille side trims though, its going to do my head in the thought of that rattling around somewhere i cant get at it...!!!
thanks for the advice guys...
