Question

Halfords make up spray cans to the colour code of your car.

Has anyone done DIY painting using these sprays, and then laquered it up? How close is the match and what sort of quality came about?

I've done the wedges and the outer rim of the fog light covers, using the Halfords version of 95H, it's good enough on these small parts.
I had some made up using the same system elsewhere and it was way off, it's all down to the operator.

Yoza,is correct, i painted my front lip and side sills with the Halfords supplied paint, the match is perfect and the finnish is excellent.
Take your time and allow the primer to dry completely before you wet flat it and allow the paint to dry before you apply the laquer.

Compared to bodyshop prices to complete the job (Circa £300 )the £50 i spent + my time saved me a fortune.
I did serve my time in a bodyshop though, so spraying wasnt completely alien to me.

So if i buy a body part which is supplied as moulding, I need to:

1. Primer it
2. Paint it
3. Laquer it

Are all Laquers the same? I don't want it to outshine the rest of the body!

Any tips with the spray can? a thin layer, twice?

Many thnaks for any tips!

1= Primer It
2= Wet flat it (Primer)
3= Paint it (Several light layers)
4= Laquer it (At least twice)
5= When dry, Polish and admire

Any problems e-mail me off line.

Yes, I painted my 'orange wedges' with body-colour paint that Halfords mixed.

I have done all my plastics with the Halfords stuff, no probs.

As for crap paint - it depends on how good you are at getting the stuff from the can onto the item in question. I would go learn how to do it.

you can be the best painter in the world but if you have got cheap paint. (cellulose,acrylic). then you are restricted on the finish. what paint do subaru ferarri rover everyboby use. well it aint from halfords. it loses its gloss maybe not after a week but it will

I've used halfords mix in the past for small bits and the finish was spot on. All down to the prep and application me thinks.

Clarky,

Been painting cars and bikes for years mate. As for losing its gloss, Ive had no experience of that. My R6 that has rear hugger and undertray painted using the stuff and is mint nearly 2 years on.
