Question

Hi,

I keep seeing people talk about the Meguiars 3 stage process, but don't know what those stages are.

I'm getting my first scoob (new WRX in WRBlue) in a few weeks and have never really looked after paintwork on previous cars, but am determined to this time.

I don't want to spend ages cleaning, as I'd end up in the divorce courts. But reading the various posts on this forum, I'm hoping that 1 or 2 hours once every 2 or 3 weeks should keep the new car looking reasonable.

Meguiars seems to offer a good compromise between cost/quality, but I'm not sure what I need to order to get up and running on the new scoob. Lets assume I've just got a bucket, sponge, chamois and water. What else do I need?

Thanks very much
Arthur

If it's a new car just use Meguiars gold class wax. Its dead easy to put on and wipe off. No need for any body scrub/cleaner as its a new car!

Thanks Barnesy. What about shampoo? Is there a choice of Meguiars shampoos (don't want to wash all the wax off with the cheap rubbish I use on 'er indoors car!).

Neither of the Meguiars shampoos will strip the previous wax from your paint.

AF,
Use the gel shampoo or the gold glass one. Wash as normal dry with a chamois. Every couple of months wax it with the Gold class.
In between waxing use Meguiars quick wax (in a spray), after you have washed it as it only takes 10 mins.
Your car should look better than new!!

Would you recommend me waxing it the day I get my new scoob (2 weeks and 6 days, but who's counting?!), or is the PDI clean a good one which will make it look its best?

Barnesy - you recommend Quik Wax, but on the Meguiars site they refer to it as complementary to Quick Detailer. Don't understand this "detailing" malarchy. Can I just ignore that and go with just the Quik Wax between full waxings?

Also, would people recommend using a special cloth for waxing, or is a household duster sufficient?

Thanks again
Arthur

Arthur
I was disappointed with the finish of my car when I bought it new 6 months ago. I started using Meguiars Gold after reading about the best polish, wax etc.
A friend of mine uses £175 carnauba wax on his M3 and I reckon my scooby looks better after a polish.
I give it a wash every week with a normal car shampoo.
A polish with Meguiars Gold every 3 weeks using a terrys towel to polish off with.
Thats it.
A word of warning. Check ingredients of the polish you intend to use, some have an abrasive in them to improve the look of the paint on older cars. This is not suitable for a new car.

AF,
Yes just use quick wax between polishes. Quick detailer is for removing bugs/birdmuck etc.
Use an applicator pad to apply the polish and a terry towel to wipe it off. Don't use a duster, you will ge yellow bits everywhere.
No problems with washing waxing as soon as you get it.

Thanks Barnesy. I'll take your advice.

I might have to wait a week before cleaning due to the (justified) stick I got on the General forum for waxing instead of driving
