Colour coding advice...side skirts.
#1
I have decided to colour-code my sideskirts on MY96 wagon. I have a few questions first for you knowledgable lot:
1) How do I remove the skirts ?
2) Where is the best source for the right paint as somebody
mentioned Halfords on another thread.
3) Can anybody offer any sound advice on the actual prep work and
hints on achieving a decent job as I'm doing it myself.
Many thanks.
Skoosh.
p.s: wagon's white.
p.p.s: also going to spray the rear skirts, how do you remove these?
Ta.

Hi
Halfords do the paint. You'll need the paint code for the car as they have to mix it up. Seems ok match just done a p1 front splitter for mine with it as a temporary measure til i get a re- spray.

if you look at the sideskirts..
they're simply held on with clips and plastic grommets
there will be a grommet in the front and rear of the side skirt
(inside the fender/wheel well)
and there will be several clips scattered undertneath the side skirt... (get under the car and take a peek.. you cant miss em)
be careful removing them as they break easily!!!
If you plan on painting them yourself...
you'll want to sand them very well....
and use several coats of paint
maybe even top with a clear laquer/coat for a professional look
good luck

I did mine this spring. Its a pretty easy job.
As someone has already said, the skirts are held in place with
two or three bolts for the front piece and a couple for the back bit.
The only hard part is getting these loose.(some of mine just turned but did nothing)
Once off, give them a damned good wash to remove any old polish.
Then i gave them a rub down with some thinners just to make sure.
After that, a good rub down with some fine wet and dry to give
a key for the primer.
Use plastic primer and give plenty of fine coats- the more the better.
Then just spray your top coat - again plenty of fine coats.
And hey presto
I got my paint made up at halfords, and they do the plastic primer and thinners as well
Hope that helps
It has since been de-tangoed and i am waiting for a P1 front splitter to be delivered
