Unhappy

Hi,
I have UK300 MY01 and the boot rattles like buggery. Subaru have tried to fix the problem but it soon re-appears. Does anyone else have the same problem? I thought it might be the weight of the spoiler, which if you take it off, is heavier than you think. Subaru have tightened the catch, replaced the catch and just about everything else. There are no rattles elsewhere in the boot (I made my wife stick her head through the ski hatch in the back seat while I drove over some bumpy roads - see loves me!!).

Seems like they run out of money when designing the boot - all the money went up front and on the suspension

Would appreciate any help - thanks

Question

OK, you're certain it's the bootlid? Can you move it by hand when it's supposed to be shut? You might try sticking YOUR head in it while wifey tries to jiggle it up and down....preferably while it's at a standstill:
The jack and tools can rattle too: are they tightly fitted?
The two rods across the top also clonk a bit sometimes, see if it's them and if it is, fasten some foam around them where they touch.
Finally, if it IS the bootlid, loose, do the catch up until it stops it rattling, and use threadlocking on the bolt, and even a star washer if you can get one, anything to stop it working loose again.

I had what I thought was a boot lid rattle in mine but was actually the jack in the little hatch at the nearside in the boot. Wrapped it in bubble wrap and hey presto problem solved.

p.s.

Try spraying WD40 between the lid and hinge bars that fasten to it. These are prone to scuffing when dry.
