colour coding
#1
Mod's please leave this in General for a bit. Ta.
I'm getting my bonus from work at the end of February and have been thinking of the best way to spend some of it on my Scoob. It's in dire need of colour coding, so I've decided to part with a small chunk of my bonus to get this done. I remember there was a thread about a year ago, and there were some places mentioned that could do a great job really cheap. So can you guys help me by suggesting places (South England - pref. Berkshire) that will colour code my wing mirrors, door handles, and skirts for a reasonable price?
Cheers.

Go through the yellow pages and look for paint sprayers, you could go down and check their work out before you commit, estimate 200-300 all in for a decent job, I wouldn't pay any more.

Also, I'm not sure whether to go ahead with this because every paint sprayer I've spoken to said that they can't guarantee the work because of the texture of the door handles and the skirts. They say that I could take a jet wash to the car and it may rip the paint off. So I'm thinking it may be a better option to buy a body kit. Can anyone suggest a good place to buy one from?

Right:
Door handles: dismantle the door cards, and remove.
Gently peal away the plastic sheeting used to waterproof, near the top.
Unbolt the door handle from inside, and dismantle the linkage that locks it etc. Don't lose the little plastic coloured keeper!
Dismantle handle, removing springs, rubber bumpstops, and the piece of plastic trim that goes round the whole thing.
Does it stay on, once painted? Mine has, except for a little bit I chipped with a key, unlocking it, and one or two MINOR bits on the skirts, which I've touched in with brushing paint.

Thanks for that Alcazar. It sounds like a fiddly job, is it easy enough to do, cos I'm good at dismantling, but crap at putting everything back together in the correct place/order ?
Also, one last thing...when you say "remove the door card".......how? Thanks.

I cant get my bleeding rear spats off m8 so all my gears going to the sprayer now, after I took everything else off and bought a compressor and gun, s*d it, give them my car for 1 day let them sort it all for me then pick it up all done(after they've all had a spin no doubt....
Dont think I'll do my door handles though.

Hi Tony, what colour is your car as i dont remember seeing it mentioned? The reason i ask is,you could possibly get some similar coloured handles off of a jap spec from a breaker, coz they are meant to be painted, that way you can send them to the paintshop without worryiny if the paint will stay on when you get them back The reason for getting similar coloured ones is, it needs less paint to cover i.e. changing from say black to white,it would need much more paint, therefore more cost and it may not look quite so good Hope that this helps

Also the paint wont come off if its done properly, I suggest not using the last person who said that.
Mine's been done for a fortnight and has stood up to everything so far, nice job as well.

Door cards: remove two screw covers, and/or clips, one round, top left, the other sqare, mid/lower right. Undo any screws beneath the covers, Pull the handle surround towards the front of the car, lever up gently, and remove.
Working along the bottom edge and sides, prise up the clips gently with a flat bladed screwdriver, work close to each clip before applying any force.
Once all this lot is free, the card lifts upwards and off, 5 mins per door, tops.
Dismantling handles: a bolt, and a clip. Easy, and worth doing, IMHO for the looks when done.
Rear spats: 3 clips/bolts/screws along lower edge/front, then pull the whole thing towards the rear of the car: it slides.
Refitting: Take notes of how it comes off, with little diagrams to yourself. Alternatively, take digi photos at each stage: that's what I do when taking apart old clocks for repair.
Put all bits into a closed container(s). I knocked off a tray full of bits once, and lost 3 bits under the nearest shelving, never to appear again! they suffered from "Fridge suck", that strange force that propells tiny parts dropped onto the floor under the nearest immovable object:
