I do, however, reserve the right to rip into him if he turns out to be the new Robbie Keane

Great piece of buisness IMO, i rate Joe Cole highly and was slightly dissapointed when United didn't come in for him. I do feel he made the right choice in Liverpool over Spurs and Arsenal, and £6m for Benayoun too he's half the player JC is.

The prospect of playing at Anfield was key to Joe Cole's decision to join Liverpool as the midfielder insisted he had not signed for financial reasons.
"I thought about the Champions League semi in 2005 when I ran on to the field and the hairs on the back of my neck stood up," said the ex-Chelsea star. " There are no plastic flags waving there "
"I was thinking about playing in that atmosphere every week and that swung it for me," added the 28-year-old Cole. "plastic flag waving, prawn sandwich munching fans just don't cut it any more, " he added.
Chelsea lost 1-0 on aggregate to Liverpool in that 2005 Champions League semi-final in front of a delirious Anfield crowd when even their former manager Jose Mourinho was moved to comment: "I felt the power of Anfield, it was magnificent, and not a plastic flag in sight."
"I have played in London all my life. I could have stayed at Chelsea because the fans loved me and I won things, but I got sick of seeing plastic flags everywhere,. I wanted to challenge myself, play infront of real fans, who'd actually made flags, and when I knew Liverpool were interested it was a no-brainer because they are the biggest club in the country."

sad to see Benayoun to to a club thats never won a major cup in Europe to warm the bench.
JC a good addition, and Jovanovic a good player from all accounts. Need a couple more quality signings.

Looks that way doesn't it?
I mean all we need now is another 5/6 world class players, the club sold to someone prepared to build a new stadium, and give the manager ( whoever he will be ) £150,000,000, a time machine to make the next football season 2013/14, and the ability to reverse Gerrards ageing process.
Yep, it's our year all right.

Anyway good luck to Cole and he's way better than Benayoun!

Makes me laugh he claims it isn't for financial reasons. If that is the case why did he hold talks with the other clubs only to find out they wouldn't pay him what he wanted and then all of a sudden declare his love for Liverpool when they would pay him what he wanted
A good player and yes I would have been pleased to have seen him at Arsenal but I still doubt his fitness and how much of the season he will be out injured.

To be fair, he's 28 now so just starting on the inevitable downward slide in his career. He needs that 4 year contract to be as lucrative as possible. I am sure he would spout the same allegiance to whichever team he chose, but there's nothing new in that.
One more of his quotes made me smile:
“I have had people on my phone who I didn’t even know were Liverpool fans."
I am sure he had plently of that when he signed from West Ham for Chelsea! I scarcely met one Chelsea fan when I was growing up in the early '80s and they were in the old 2nd Division, but since the money and the good times starting rolling in you now find them everywhere!
