Great goal and great memories of the Lord Jim pub in Rio De Janiero that afternoon, being huged by a Leeds fan who had only met that afternoon and at the end of the match he said "I fookin hate you United lot but isn't this great !"

Possibly the greatest year of my life, (not including AD Wife and Kids onwards) 18 y o, great weather if I remember rightly, it was all going so well wasnt it!?

If memory serves me correct that was the opening match and the dirty Macaroons won it didn't they? If you want dirty World Cup tackles, nothing beats this one by Germany's Toni Schumacher against the French in '82: it wasn't even given as a foul!:

It was the first game, and the Argie keeper had butter on his gloves for the headed goal. Happy times!! Still have my shirt from that time, and still fits me!

Pumpido I believe is the keeper.

He was then dropped and Goycachea or something replaced him. No idea on the spelling.

I was 10 and Italia was my first world cup.
