Because it was on at the same time as the F1 'race', Star Sports elected to not bother showing the MotoGP over here

I didn't say I'd rather watch it, I just said Star Sports didn't offer me the option
As it happens I didn't watch the F1 either, I went out with a couple of mates and watched some scooter racing instead
