Scolari
So, after what seems like an age, it looks like the job's been offered to Scolari. I'm happy. I didn't fancy any of the other candidates. What have they done? Very little really... O'Neil maybe, but Allardyce, McClaren, Pearce, and Curbishley? Nothing, zilch, zero. None of them have the standing, presence, skills or experience to be England Manager. They manage teeny, weeny little Clubs.
I'd love to see nasty Little (he's 4" smaller than me) Sam Allardyce's face this morning! I bet he's exploded all over the breakfast table!
Cheers
LONG LIVE SCOLARI!

sorry, but i think the English football manager should be English.
Yes Scolari may be passionate, but it always boils down to how passionate he can be for the team he is coaching, and what if its England V Brazil in the final, England are 1 goal down with 20 mins to go....
hmmmm.

Good choice IMHO. Think he would really shake it up and get the established England player out of the comfort zone. Beckham will be bricking it if he comes in. Only problem is how good is his English? mind there are a couple of scousers in the team so prob not much of an issue as long as he can gargle a bit of flem at the back of his throat.

I'm a bit disappointed with the FA to be honest. The public opinion after the years with Sven was that an English manager should get the job... and yet again they've gone overseas for the role. Should be a national squad, including the management team.
I also still don't think the players should get paid for playing... Should be an honour.

He is the best choice out of those on the list IMO
Shame they couldn't have poached Jol, he certainly knows how to get them to play (play, play)

If he accepts the job i'll be more than happy, given his track record.
I would have prefered an English manager but the only one I would have had, hasn't really got the experience yet,Stuart Pearce.

Scolari everytime
Excellent choice, if there had been a decent English/British Manager available then maybe they would have stood a chance, but there aren't any.

People keep mentioning public opinion
we the public are a fickle bunch and with the press digging up whatever they can on anyone famous
I am sure he will be damned for something
SO DISCOUNT ALL THE OPINIONS
IS HE A GOOD COACH .....................YES
IS HE A GREAT COACH......................YES
Let him have the Job IMHO
BUGGER WHAT THE PUBLIC OPINION IS

Is it the National side, representing the best that England as a country can offer? Yes. So why have we got a foreign coach? Shouldn't be about who can afford the best coach. Should be about being English. Sadly football is all about money now, so who cares about principles?

IMHO anyone who says the England Manager HAS to be English is being a bit narrow minded - surely you want the best man for the job.
Everyone seems to jump on the bandwagon of slating the Police for enlisting people just because they happen to be in an Ethnic Minority when there are far better candidates on offer - so whats the difference?
Basically, if an Englishman was up to the job then he'd have been offered it - sadly, none of them are and Sky Sports today seems to be full of them bitching about it - and its mainly those in the relegation battle.
Come on Robson - admit you're a relegation magnet...

Non of the English choices had the right credentials. If a committee put pressure on themselves by making a statement saying that they want an English manager, interview them all twice then publicly climb down by going for a foreigner then it obviously shows those candidates fell short of the right stuff.
If we are all singing with conviction "It's just like watching Brazil" in 2008 then nobody will care.

I don't think it's dead and buried yet.
It would have been a severe conflict of interest if Scolari confirmed his appointment with England before the World Cup, due to his commitment to Portugal.
I fully expect the FA to 'delay' any sort of announcement until after the conclusion of the World Cup, when Scolari will be named as the next manager. They've got their man, but the timing isn't right to announce such, I feel.
