At least it shows just how scared they are by the threat of 'the new look Liverpool'

Hope Liverpool stuff them good and proper tomorrow night

Quote: Liverpool have today had their worst fears confirmed with the news that skipper Steven Gerrard will be out of action for two months.
The Reds midfielder had an X-Ray this morning on the foot injury he sustained during last night's defeat at Old Trafford and unfortunately the results have confirmed the initial diagnosis of the Liverpool medical team.

Gerrard has suffered a fracture of the fifth metatarsal in his left foot and will be out of action for eight weeks.

Lets face it, Man Utd are coming together as a very good unit now. Silvestre last night played a blinder.

But then because its Manchester United we cant win, because if we lose we get slated and if we win we get called spawny!!! imo.

Really bad news. IMHO Gerrard is the best midfielder in the country at the moment.

What is it with metatarsils nowadays? I'd never heard of it before the Beckham WK2002 saga, but after him there was Gary Neville, Wayne Rooney and now Stevie Gerrard. Is there a design flaw in modern football boots that means players are more susceptible to this kind of injury?

boots now are a lot lighter and more flexible. This is meant to improve touch and feel but I think the reduced rigidity may put more stress on the bones in the feet and hence be a factor in these injuries.

all IMHO

Or it could be an increase in dirty tackles (Mr Gerrard being a prime example of this). In the "Old Days" the dirty players would just smack players or kick them up the **** - nowadays they have to be more "Subtle" with their "Tackles" - as a result the injuries might be getting worse.

Just a Theory !

Are you suggesting that Mr. Gerrard makes dirty tackles (in general), made a dirty tackle that resulted in him injuring himself, or was the recipient of a dirty tackle that resulted in him being injured?

I was being MUCH more General than that - Generally Mr Gerrard is a dirty scouseo B@st@rdo (as they would say in Spanish ). Haven't seen how he got his injury but it wouldn't suprise me if he damaged himself !

Edited: Quote from Stevie G

It was such an innocuous thing, I don't really know how it happened. There was no one near me. I was just stretching to take a pass from Xabi Alonso and my foot stuck in the turf. I heard a crack, and it hurt like hell.

The latest boots flex so easily I believe this is a contributing factor in his injury.

Could be and in all probability is the reason. Still a bummer though
