Yes, the goal was disallowed, but England had an extra 30 minutes to prove their superiority if it existed.
On the night, Portugal played the better game. They used the "bad" penalty spot to it's advantage too (ie, slow *****).
England really can't complain. They had enough 2nd chances.
However, you guys don't understand how silly John Motson sounds sometimes....

I often say a win is a win. But I'm loath to on this ocassion. OK England played crap, but that was a goal, simple. England should have won even if they didnt deserve to win.
Glad to see that silly *** Beckham (even if he is a **** hot player) loose a few million in endorsements though

The goalie did have England hands on his shoulders.....so not quite 100%.
Anyway, the ref doesn't have the benefit of 10 minutes of slow-motion replays! The more it was replayed, yes it was more obvious maybe it was a goal, but the ref has the final say, and has to say within seconds. Until they have video refs, these are the rules. Simple. No?

So many "what if's" :
What if the goal had stood, and Portugal had equalised from the kick-off again? What if?

At the end of the day I actually don't really give a ***. I'm off to the States next week so won't need to worry about what came next, that I might of missed.
It was a great night's entertainment though. Almost as good as a Rugby match.
BTW - if they had video refs (like Rugby), it would have been a different result

I've been supporting the Czechs throughout the comp and that's one of the teams that deserve to lift the trophy. I'm sorry, but on their performances England, Germany and Spain certainly didn't and Portugal certainly don't.
England just defended their slender lead in both the French and Portugal game and suffered the consequences. England never looked like they played well enough to win the comp.
In tonights game, they were gifted the first goal and did nothing for 85+ minutes. They were robbed of the last minute goal, but if the Portugese had actually put some effort into their attacks they should have won it easily. The Portugese were just far to slow and lazy and that Ronaldo is a one-trick wonder.
As for Motson, that blokes stuck in the past. He made one comment about a Portugal/England game from 20 years ago and then there's the usual reference to 1966. FFS, it's over 40 years ago and has no relevance whatsoever to tonights game. Motson real does talk the biggest load of bo!!ocks.

How can you give the initative to a team like Portugal & invite them to attack us for 87 minutes of normal play. Italy cannot defend a one goal lead anymore so how can we expect to.
Cole & Campbell were magnificent though. It says it all when you bring on Phil Neville with less than an hour gone & as for our inspirational captain, don't get me started on him

I'd have layed you any odds you wanted that if that goal had stood, England would have won. But we'll never prove it, will we?

How can you say England played crap?
We lost Rooney and so had to rebuild a totally different team, our defence was world class, this was prooved by the fact the portugese only scored once in the 80 odd minute and we pulled one back when we needed to, which was wrongly and unforgivably disallowed.
We won, and with tipping the reff, people will die and Portugal will be wipped from the map within several hours.
I love England.

This tournament has thus far been a poor advert for European football. The teams that are suposed to be the power teams of Europe have bowed out early and shown themselves to be a collection of individuals and nowhere near being good teams
The 2 that have inspired me have been Denmark and Sweden. Real grafters, working for all the team.
All IMO of course

Not a good day for refs then - Serena Williams got dealt a bad one at Wimbledon today too....that WAS a concrete mistake however, not a subjective one like the footie....

Sorry Audi-Boy, but if you think England are World Class purely based on defense you are off your head. Who the **** wants to see a country lift the cup when all they do is sneak a goal and then sit on it for 80 mins !!!
They've played cr@p all tournament, just like Germany, Italy, Spain and Portugal. When you get to these comps, you need to be up for it and attack. I'd rather countries like the Czech Republic, Sweeden or Denmark get to the finals coz at least we see some proper attacking football.
Just my 2p's worth.
As for the decision, there's been dodgy decisions all tournament with penalties disallowed and incorrect decisions. IMHO, England should have done more than wait til the last minute. Rooney didn't do much even before he got injured and if the teams lost without one player then English football is in a worse state than I thought.
The Czechs made 9 changes and still put the Germans out.
