They are different players. Ronaldo is a power player and Ruud is a thinking player. Ruud scores so many because IMHO he is excellent at knowing where the ball is going to go.

Ronaldo has excellent pace and power. I would say Ronaldo has done more due to his international play and playing for Real.

Ruud however is getting better with every game. So overall I would say Ronaldo is better but Ruud has the potential to overtake him.

Let the stats speak for themselves jasey. When your team is playing well Henry plays well. But he's had way too many lean spells IMHO. Still a great player though and Id have him at OT, so he must be good

Simon - disagree - it's not about stats (if it were then Beattie would have a claim at being the best player - to score that many goals for Soton must be good ) - it's about opinion. I guess it comes down to the definition of "better than". I would rather watch Henry play than Ruud - he's more exciting and can do more with the ball than Ruud. I think he is a better all round player than either Ruud or Ronaldo !

You might think this is me with my ****-tinted glasses on - you might be right - but it is my honest opinion

Well yes I guess it does depend on how you quantify "better". As a supporter I want to see a striker score goals. If he can make it look flash thats a bonus, but at the end of the day he is there to put the ball in the back of the net.

There are plenty of players who have been flash but dont score the goals. David Ginola being a prime example. Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker are & were great strikers who will be remembered forever as just that. They werent flashy they just scored consistently.

What Im trying to say is, if Ruud gave us 30 goals and Henry 25 but 10 of them were goal of the season material - then I would choose Ruud, simple as.

As for Beattie - well hats off too him. He would make a good buy for many of the top teams now.

Simon.

Quantity doesn't equal quality . If the question was who's scored the most goals then Henrik Laarson would be the best player in the world

Ruud will be World Player of the year for the next 5 years. Period.
Nobody can match Ruud for quickness of feet, finishing abilty, speed across the ground, dribbling, and he is a workhorse aswell. No other player is like that aside from perhaps Mr Larsson but he should have played in the Premiership so we could see how good HE really is.

I think Ronaldo is a better striker than Rud.He's also done it at the very highest level, something Rud has yet to do.
As for Henry,he's not someone who can turn a game the way Rud and Ronaldo can, like someone said, when the Ar$e play poorly..Henry plays poorly.

I think its fairly obvious south-star means on an international level. Ruud has 24 caps and 11 goals to his name for Holland. Not sure exactly on Ronaldos stats but it will be a lot higher without a shadow of a doubt.

Owen? Sorry but I'm going to roll and roll and roll...into bed now...

Just goes to show that players that deserve awards, more often than not, don't receive them, and players that don't deserve them..........

Van Nistlerooy oozes class. Beckham will be missed but I'd rather have Solksjaer on the wing for the next two years, he'll score twice as many as Becks did and he'll still put in a decent ball for Ruud, who IS better than Ronaldo.

Our opinions differ, OK here is the proof and don't give me that rubish about injuries or level of competition.

In 01/02 Ruud got 36 goals in 44 apps
In 02/03 Ruud got 44 goals in 51 apps

Total 80 goals in 95 games Ratio: 0.94 GPG

In 01/02 Ronaldo got 7 goals in 10 apps
In 02/03 Ronaldo got 29 goals in 39 apps

Total 36 goals in 49 games Ratio: 0.73 GPG

But alanjack you are missing the point that Ronaldo has played in the top european leagues and proven himself internationally. No one is denying Ruud isnt top draw but he has a bit to go before he can be classed as a complete player.
