MARCHING ON TOGETHER:
Here we go with Leeds United
We're gonna give the boys a hand
Stand up and sing for Leeds United
We are the greatest in the land
Every day, we're all gonna say
We love you Leeds! Leeds! Leeds!
Everywhere, we're gonna be there
We love you Leeds! Leeds! Leeds!
Marchin' on together
We're gonna see you win (na, na, na, na, na, na)
We are so proud
We shouted out loud
We love you Leeds! Leeds! Leeds!
We've been through it all together
And we've had our ups and downs (ups and downs!)
We're gonna stay with you forever
At least until the world stops going round
Every day, we're all gonna say
We love you Leeds! Leeds! Leeds!
Everywhere, we're gonna be there
We love you Leeds! Leeds! Leeds!
Marchin' on together
We're gonna see you win (na, na, na, na, na, na)
We are so proud

We love you Leeds! Leeds! Leeds!

Although 1997's "We are Leeds, we are proud" was released as "The Official Leeds United Anthem", among the supporters the real anthem is "Marching on Together". The chorus should be well known to a lot of you - you can hear it all the time at Elland Road! Or you can hear it in the background when BBC Radio 5 is covering a Leeds United game, or if a game is shown live on SkySports etc.
And if you've ever been to Elland Road you may have sung the song yourself. That is, you'll probably have sung the chorus, as many supporters may not even know the lyrics for the verses. "Marching on Together" was first released as a record single back in 1972. The real name for the song is simply "Leeds, Leeds, Leeds" and believe it or not, it was actually the B-side of the single - the A-side was simply called "Leeds United".
"Leeds, Leeds, Leeds" soon reached the hit-lists in England, where it was in the charts for 3 months, achieving a place in the top 10! The single was released prior to the FA Cup final at Wembley that year (that 100,000 people saw Allan Clarke score the winning goal that gave Leeds United a historic triumph over Arsenal has nothing to do with the music, so we'll leave it for now). The song has survived more than 25 years, with "ups" and "downs". It was written by Les Reed, at the time well known for writing songs for legendary Tom Jones. The track was recorded in Strawberry studioes in Stockport, and has contrubutions from members of the band 10CC, amongst others.
So now you know
