Cambridge to Rutland Water Run
#2
Yep, I'll be up for it! Worth a post on www.scoobycity.co.uk too (if you haven't already - haven't looked yet).
The only day I have free now to help you recce the route is the 20th now though That's assuming you still need a hand .
Cheers
Richard

Excellent
I did a recce of the route on Easter Monday and it takes in some nice Northamptonshire countryside and even skirts under the grandstand at Rockingham Motor Speedway. The roads aren't bad either
I propose we start from our usual place - the pub in Barrington (The Royal Oak - cheers Richard) and stop for lunch at The Eight Bells in Abbotsley as we did on the Grafham Water run. The first part of the route follows The Grafham Water Run route up to Kimbolton but then goes across country to Oundle with a stop at a watering hole before continuing on up to Rutland Water. People can then return home down the A1.
Richard - thanks for your offer of assistance, but I'll need to get the directions sorted and printed before the 20th. Where can I find the route symbols that you used on previous runs? Maybe we could do a dummy run on the 20th?

Sorry, won't be coming on this now - small rearrangement of paintwork/bumper/PIAAs courtesy of one fence and one incompetent driver (me) on the way up to The Big One today I might pop over and say hello before you set off though. Grahame, you'll have to find someone else to do the dummy run too, sorry

Sorry to hear about your intimacy with a fence Can't you just tank tape the bumper for the run (and you don't need the PIAAs during the day)? Hope nothing too serious.

As Puff says, kids are welcome.

More damage done to self-confidence than the car, Grahame... structurally the bumper's fine - deep gouge marks where the wire fence cut into it. Decided never to do another run as I don't trust myself...
Where's the other watering hole you mention? I might meet you there or at Abbotsley...
Cheers

Richard,
The other watering hole will hopefully be The Mill just outside Oundle (going north, take left turn off the A605 signposted Oundle - on my map the turning is opposite a village called Barnwell St. Andrew). Pub is on your left (a large mill like structure ). I expect we'll get there around 3- 3.30.

Count me in. It sounds like the route your planing will be within a couple of miles of my house, Just hope you avoiding the B645?? we wouldn't want to upset too many bikers now would we!!

Just had the menu from the landlord of the pub where we'll be stopping for Sunday lunch. For 9.50 there is a choice of:
Roast beef
Roast leg of lamb
Roast leg of pork
Fresh fillet of salmon with lemon and parsley butter and blanched almonds
Vegetable galette with cheddar melt
Choice of dessert
Coffee & mints
To ensure you get your first choice, let me know what you want.

I'd be up for this.
Anyone on here fancy being co-driver /navigator? As I will have made use of my regular co-driver on the MSA Motorsport Classic on the Thursday and Friday and he has to go home....
I promise to drive sensibly

Full route instructions will be handed out at The Royal Oak in Barrington. The village of Barrington is SW of Cambridge. Come off the M11 at junction 11 and onto the A10 towards Royston. After about 2 to 3 miles, look for turning on your right signposted Barrington. Go along road passing through Barrington's wide village green and the pub is towards the end, depending upon which end you come in on .
Can I have your food orders if possible.....

We can't make this now - sorry! Long story but our new dog has come into season and therefore has to stay at home instead of going to my mums for the day where she would drive their male dog mad
We'd bring her with us as she likes being in the car but she'll make it a bit messy if she's in it all day
