Dear all,
We always organise pub/restaurant based meets, sometimes a little more than that, but what would you like to see in the way of meets?
For example:
- paintball
- 10pin bowling
- weekend away in the UK or north/west europe (group deal organised that you book yourself under a reference, like the IOW weekend)
- dare I say it, a southern track day (Goodwood / Thruxton)
- LaserQuest
- Cinema
- Theme park trip
- picnic in the new forest (when its warmer)
Please let me know as I will be liasing with other organisers (and hopefully the SIDC rep) to get some things planned for later in the year.
Rgds, Alex

They all sound great Alex.
So then Chuck - when you arranging the next Alton Towers excursion then? I'm well up for a re-visit. Gotta get on that new Superman type ride
How about Ice Karting? John Nike centre in Bracknell does it for about 35/40 quid per head.........

Alex,
As already said all sound good... except maybe Laser Quest (not enough pain)
I certainly would sign up for any of the above, especially if we get to stay in anymore 'Shining' hotels with Paul Whitehouse!

Cheers guys, I will of course be aiming anything I organise at the whole ScoobyNet community. But will be (hopefully) aiding and abetting (sp!) the Surrey SIDC rep too.
Any more suggestions? Also, those of you that fancy organising stuff, why don't we start some sort of southern organisers egroup? So we don't duplicate dates/events etc... and can help each other out?
Cheers, Alex

Hi Alex,
Did think about arranging some form of trip down to devon in a few months. I have reservations though, because it can either be a trip for all the tea drinkers, or one for driving.
We could do both, however most people will only be able to make a weekend, and I am up for the driving.
I can however arrange favourable rates at the best 4 star hotel down there ...saunton sands hotel right on the beach, and i know an awful lot of damn good roads....
As an extra bonus the drive down can also be very enjoyable (ask Mr Khan)
How "up for it" do you think people would be.... a driving weekend, with a splash of alcohol in the day when the roads are busy?
let me know.

Alex,
Up for it all, (you know me)
Paintballing sounds great(always wanted to try this)
Camping and BBQ when it's a bit warmer.
Definatly up for Ice karting (do they do AWD ones )

There is a place near Reading, next to the M4, that does hovercraft racing. A bunch of us went there before Christmas, it's great fun. Cornering is a bit different though.

I think you realise the main problem going here - TOO MANY MEETS.
Feeling like the Salty Old Sea Dog I am, I remember when there was one national meet every 6 months. Things have changed now
If you dont log onto this page once a day, you can miss a meet completely, and this is just the Southern section.
We still do not really include the people that dont access the internet.
My own feeling is that there should be two per year big South of Birmingham meets (obviously those above the line are welcome - (Bolton lad originally).
The sheer number of owners would make for one hell of a meet. Other car clubs book Gaydon etc. Should we be looking at the same. Todate we really have no National Meet, which is a shame.
Sorry no ideas for a meet !!

Got some info from the Lanes Bowling at D Lloyds.
Didn't realize Laser Quest was still going - great entertainment tho.
Alot of the ideas were good, even if I couldn't make them.

Thanks for your comments peeps.
Chins - agreed, we should look to do something similar, and obviously minimise the cost, I'll have a think and if anyone can suggest good locations for annual meet let me know.
Perhaps we should try to set something up for June/July?
Cheers, Alex

Dr Evil,
Knebworth in Hertfordshire regularly have American Car meets, Hot Rods, Vintage car meets etc. Might be an idea for a Southern/National venue. Good access right on top of A1 J7 i think. Used to live quite close but moved further south now.

Car treasure hunt?
I ran one for my 30th - took people from Epsom to my parents' place near Hastings. I probably still have it somewhere. Clues come in pairs - the first gives you the name of the village, the second gives you what to look for in the village (eg, who is X pub licensed to). Some clues are almost impossible, specifically as the fun comes from finding out what directions people went in when they guessed and how they justified it. The optimum mileage is measured, so those who stray get penalised.
One girl was so impressed she did one for her 30th six months later, but pinched a different idea from a friend. Precise directions are given for the entire route, some in italics. A separate sheet of paper has a jumble of photos on it. Each time you get to the bit in italics, keep your eyes peeled as there is one of the photo subjects around. At times this is easy - it may be a particularly weird house - but others were bloody sneaky, like a photo of a common object like a traffic light but you had to make sure that the background matched too, so you had to get the right traffic light!
These are not timed events, so officially not a race, though ahem certain persons may wish to travel quicker than others. Optimum route between villages of course includes cracking roads.
Treasure is a crate of beer or whatever. If each car pays 3 quid that covers costs.
Tip - better to do in the summer months as the days are longer. I did two at Uni and both times we got in at 9pm. Utterly brilliant fun though.
Alex, if you're interested let me know (maybe email, I rarely read this forum) and I'll try to dig out my old clues and send them to you.
